In 2023 the Russian government officially declared the “international LGBT movement” an extremist organization. In practice this means that anything connected to LGBT identity can potentially be treated as extremist activity. People can face fines, police harassment, or even prison in extreme cases.

I understand why it might look that way from the outside, so no worries about asking.

Some LGBT people do exist in Russia, of course, but the situation has become much worse in recent years
