I am not confused about what Carney thinks about climate.

Great new report on AI data centers in advance of COP30:
βFeeding data centers with fossil fuels is taking the climate crisis and blowing it up like the Incredible Hulk. A gas-fed AI boom is going to hurdle us past any chance of keeping to our climate goal.β

Considering the goal of public health leaders has been to make COVID endemic, this would be a great time for them to explain why that's a good thing.
Were they just trying to get it everywhere so they could use that as an excuse for failing to do anything, or is there some sort of plan here?
But think of all that sweet, sweet defence spending and AI that we're getting!

On my way to COP30 and thought Iβd reshare this piece wrought out of the anger I felt leaving COP29.
Hereβs hoping we move the needle forward this year
Yes. Doesn't change what Carney fans are doing.

Same. Lived in NY and also very much like DC, San Francisco, New Orleans, Chicago, and other places. But can't imagine going.

bsky.app/profile/trya...
Commenters: "What was the alternative to voting for Carney?"
Me: "Here's a thread answering that and explaining why it's a terrible way to look at the election."
Commenters: "But what was the alternative to voting for Carney?"
Could we please have some non-terrible politicians at any level?

What we need is a truly progressive party as a real option. If the NDP don't get that and instead try to court "moderate Liberals", they're finished.
09.11.2025 17:53 β π 25 π 2 π¬ 4 π 0Instead, we get an LPC moving farther and farther to the right, indeed attracting CPC MPs to join them, with almost no progressives putting a check on that. *Because* people said "there is no alternative but to vote for Carney".
09.11.2025 17:50 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1We could easily have had a minority LPC with NDP holding balance of power. Good things have happened in that situation. Do the math on 8 fewer CPC seats and those going instead to progressives. "There is no alternative" cost us exactly that.
09.11.2025 17:49 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I don't know how to explain it any more clearly. Did you read the thread before commenting?
09.11.2025 17:46 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0All of this is to say that "We had no choice" or "But PP would be worse" are *terrible* arguments for shrugging and accepting whatever Carney does now.
09.11.2025 15:22 β π 39 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1Bonus #2:
Carney does not in any sense have a strong mandate.
i) It's a minority government.
ii) LPC had support from 30% of the electorate. (43.76% x 69.5% turnout).
