I all välmening: var försiktig med ChatGPT. Säger inte att svaret är fel, men man bör utgå från att det är det. Svaret låter som ett rimligt svar på prompten, vilket är vad en LLM är bäst på, men detaljerna kan lika gärna vara påhittade.

Not saying that you can't learn from the content it's consumed and composes an answer from, but it has historically been awful at chess, so I'm just curious if there's been some development I'm unaware of. I would think that it's a limitation of an LLM, same as arithmetic etc.

Admit sounds like cognition, and that's a little generous. It made up responses that sounded like responses, isn't that what it does? Has chess been improved? I would think it's as bad at that as at arithmetic. Or analyzing statistics.

I hand Copilot complicated work tasks that it works on for a few minutes and produce successful results. Shopping should be a significantly lower bar. Totally get why they would want to integrate, but pure enshittification will probably follow.

Not quite, an HP laptop with functioning fingerprint reader and decent Bluetooth and no wifi issues. Usually weeks of uptime and disconnected daily. No drivers though, except for maybe the fingerprint reader.

Sure, I’ve stopped tinkering with random nonsense and most dev environments are set up inside containers, but it’s been many years since I’ve had issues. Not even sure how I would go about breaking my desktop environment.

Why? Save for worse battery time my experience with Ubuntu is much more stable than the Mac it succeeded. And Windows I wouldn't even touch for a daily driver.

Men ja, problemet är ju kapitalismen oavsett. Det finns inget incitament att göra något bra om man kan göra det beroendeframkallande istället.

Jag är inne på att det är när man maximerar vinsterna som plattformar spårar ur. När man tjänar mer pengar på att polarisera och göra folk beroende, och man har ett åtagande till sina aktieägare att maximera vinsterna, så är det vad man kommer göra. Facebook före IPO var rätt bra vad jag minns.

Gammalt nu, men hela ingången i att skapa den här plattformen och protokollet är ju att den inte ska finansieras via annonser, att det till och med kan bli svårt. bsky.social/about/blog/7...

En skillnad skulle jag säga är att det mig veterligen saknas ett ekonomiskt incitament i Bluesky att förstöra plattformen. Nu kan det kulturellt bli sämre ändå, men det som till stor del förstört andra sociala medier är just maximeringen av engagement (algoritmer) för att maximera annonsintäkter.

I cannot express how much I loathe apps that have a monthly fee, unless it needs to pay for either content or infrastructure. That every other app on iOS is literally a scam doesn’t really help either.

That moment when you write a POS app as a hobby project and it's fun. Not what I had in mind in my youth.

It gets the code a lot closer to where I want it, and I get there a lot faster (bigger changes/consecutive tabbing).

Oh absolutely, not removing the blame from Uber, but being able to disallow only ads is tempting, and I barely get any ads. Insane that Apple hasn't added this yet.

I've considered switching to Android just because I'm annoyed by Uber ads. It's somewhat insane that there's no fix for that on iOS.

Finally. That policy is in my opinion one of the most detrimental things in tech. The sad thing about it is that it could have been an evolving sensible compromise that long term also was good for the consumer, potentially even better than whatever happens now.

But I suppose I get why Apple wouldn't want to tweak anything. If they stop the semi-scammers or allow payments outside of their platform or allow easy refunds, they'll lose money.

Did not know it was that bad, but it definitely tracks with my experience.

And the business model in general Apple seems to create on the app store isn't great. Doesn't matter if it's a top 10 quiz game, monster truck game, or astronomy AR app, to remove ads you'll need to pay 3€ (ish) per week.

I started out enjoying programming doing a proof of concept for event tickets scanned that you scan with your phone when I was at university 15 years ago. Now I've apparently gone full circle and am back to implementing pretty much the same thing, but for real in my own mvp. Scratching my own itch.
