Okay, maybe this is an East Coast/New York dialect thing (I lived in NYC til age 10), but to me you are totally saying "Mary" instead of "merry!" And "Mary" rhymes with "scary," but "merry" rhymes with "berry" (which is why I think they should only REALLY be allowed to do "Knott's Merry Farm").

It is once again the time of year where I fight the battle I have been fighting for truly the entire time I've lived in Los Angeles 🙏
