Philosophically-inclined people often cling to the “rational choice” model of human behavior, which is a huge miscalculation and will not help you to understand many or even most human beings. Here’s why:
Many people behave based on a cocktail of habit, emotions, and reactions.
If Adam Smith’s rational choice/actor model were fully true, human beings could immediately answer the question “why did you do that?”
As we know, people are often mysteries to themselves on important matters, such as romantic partner selection or other preferences.
There is not some grand design that is fully understood and acted out in an incremental fashion, but rather the struggles of the day and responses to momentary challenges.

Lay down your worries after you’ve done all you can to address them. Focus on the talents and passions you can control at present. Build the now, rather than focusing on what was wrong then, or what could happen next.
