I think it's a cool design choice in the early games cuz they're intended to be online social games and there was a sanctity in the idea of a bonfire being the only safe point in the game - so getting to a new one felt monumental. I think the newer games have strayed away from this though

I will trust a DS1 or DS2 lover. Everything beyond that must be evaulated on a case by case basis lol

There are def complaints but I don't think RE4's status even came close to something like MGS2. At most I think the main contention was from OG RE fans, but even then I think the discussion was mostly "ya it's a good game but I hate that it changed the series". I think its always gotten its flowers

I think I should have put relatable vs realistic. And I mean that in the sense that after their origin game their characters become action heroes, which is not bad, but it's wild to me to see people say that Ethan has no character etc

I think not being able to see Ethan's face has fucked up a lot of people's opinions of him cuz idk how else to explain the hate he gets lol. He's like the only character in the series with a real narrative arc and realistic motivation. Every other protag are kinda like action figures (not bad)

I only played Revelations on 3DS and it was during REs dark era so I have fond memories of it... I wonder how much of that holds up with the hd versions

I used to be a RE6 defender but I tried playing thru it recently with a friend and it was dreadful. Every set piece is 3x longer than it should be and many times it's the same thing over and over. Good mechanics can't save a pacing nightmare imo

I genuinely really like the 2nd game and would reccomend it, but this one went into a direction that is way more degenerate imo... but it is still fun and better than 90% of the other anime arena fighters from an actual fighting game persepctive. I'd reccomend a sale
