Green, thinking: Wait, what's that sound? A child screaming? Outside, this late at night? Frowning and sleepy, Green lifts his head from his pillow and looks around, trying to determine the source of the sound. Green, still in thought: There it was again. Where is it coming from? As he looks around, Green's gaze lands on Blue. Still groggy and sleepy, Green nonetheless looks visibly relieved. Green, still thinking: I can't decide what to do about it before I figure out wh- oh. Green cuddles up to Blue, who is still just as serenly asleep as ever. The whistling sound continues, coming from Blue. Green, still in thought: It was just your nostril whistling.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

there are many in this world who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of others, I do not discount their achievements or contributions. but I think it's cool that this lesson can be learned from something as seemingly simple as a plant

I think that this a level of self-sacrifice that many of us struggle to understand until we observe it. being willing to sacrifice yourself just on the chance that you can give another (in this case her babies) a better life is something that the plant world has known for a long time

if she had flowered at this point, she would have had just barely enough energy to limp along next year. she would have crippled herself for her babies

my cigar orchid was going to flower this year. I had to cut off the flower in order to allow her to keep more energy for next year and devoting that to growth. but there was something really poetic about her flowering
