I tell my players “inconvenience is adventure.” Components. Arrows. Rations. Water. Encumbrance. We use it all. No one has left yet.

While I am all for more welcoming and accessible #starbucks cafes (as mentioned in the news today), what truly would make these locations more welcoming and accessible is coffee that doesn’t cost as much as a pint of craft beer.

I’m not blaming the rule. I think it’s a nice shield go reign players in when needed. But how can you blame a GM that doesn’t understand the rule, or doesn’t recall it in the moment because they’re herding cats? Not everyone has the same experience learning how to run a game.

With all of the ways some D&D enthusiasts chase the hobby seeking ways to make it a side hustle or career out of their passion, I’m surprised nobody has developed a Dungeon Master certification course by now. The hobby needs more DMs and less accoutrements.

I agree, but it’s often the case DM’s don’t have the confidence or experience to make that kind of call at their table, and allow rolls for everything. It’s why there’s a billion “welp, my players nat 20’d [insert weird thing here] and now my game went off the rails. HELP!” stories out there.

I dunno. I feel like you shouldn’t be able to roll a nat 20 and then, regardless of whether you have proficiency in the skill or not, succeed on a DC 20, DC 25, or DC 30 check. There have to be guardrails, or it goes from fantasy to farcical.
