A Life Given for the Least Reflecting on another unbearable loss

On last night's @allinwithchris.bsky.social, Pastor and Senator Rev. Rafael Warnock in Minneapolis talked about, "Soul force meeting brute force" in his interview with @chrislhayes.bsky.social My thoughts on what that looks like, and how we should draw on it when it comes to us in Texas.

@bobcesca.bsky.social I used to participate in any survey and FG to understand the participant experience. In one FG I pointed out that the talking “Asian” tomato in a proposed ad was racist. The facilitator said, “we’re not talking about that right now.” That’s a bad focus group.

@bobcesca.bsky.social I’m shocked, Bob, at your trashing of real focus groups! I worked for 20 years in multiple methods research (medical/behavioral, not marketing). Well done FGs are essential to that work. I still hold you in high esteem…

This is just a continuation of SB8, which after a couple of years is pointing to abusers using the qui tam/bounty hunter law to control their abused partners. This emerged in hearings over a month ago, and no media reported on it.

I’m relentless trying to get these Texas legislators to justify their belief in embryonic (first trimester) personhood. Not the Bible. Not the three verses they cite but have never read. Only response came from an abortion abolitionist who insulted Jesus.

They’re Making Texas Poorer, Meaner, and Less Free. You Don’t Have to Take It. Democracy, decency, and reality do still matter to some of us in Texas. And we have voices too.

"We believe Texas can be better — but only if we fight for it."

As we mark one year at The Barbed Wire, @briangaar.bsky.social writes that our job as journalists is not just to document Texas’ decline into a right-wing fever dream, but to remind you that democracy and decency still matter.

Under Abortion Bans, Texas Women Are Being Crushed by Invisible Labor Reproductive healthcare workers and their patients have taken on invisible labor under abortion bans, which make pregnancy life-threatening.

On Labor Day, we’re spotlighting the invisible labor abortion bans put on health workers and patients.

“Witnessing so much that people are living through has really, just like left me in a place of burnout,” said midwife Felisa Yzaguirre. “The need is so high.” thebarbedwire.com/2025/09/01/t...

I testified multiple times against the latest abomination abortion “pill bill.” In it they stripped out religious freedom rights just for that issue. Could it be because we Christians are calling them on their BS? They removed that in the final bill, but still a really bad bill.

The disappearance of Nory Sontay Ramos Nory and her mother were following the rules. But as MSNBC reports from L.A. and Guatemala, U.S. officials deported them anyway — throwing their futures into jeopardy.

Nory Sontay Ramos was a thriving high school student in L.A. until she and her mom were deported by the Trump administration in July. For @msnbc.com, we visited her in Guatemala as she tries to graduate remotely while hiding from the same gang they fled years ago. www.msnbc.com/msnbc/news/n...

Thanks for covering Nory’s story, Jacob. Xela (Quezaltenango) is not far from contacts we have who live on Lake Atitlan where it would be very safe for her and her mom and access to WiFi and a computer for her.

@nicollewallace.bsky.social We have contacts in Guatemala on Lake Atitlan near Xela (Quezaltenango) in safe communities around the Lake. Also we can get her access to WiFi and a computer for Nora and her mom.

@stephaniemiller.bsky.social We do not register as a party in Texas. They’re making assumptions based on voting patterns in previous elections.

They ignore the Bible verses telling them they’ll suffer ‘eternal damnation’ for oppressing immigrants (e.g. Matthew 25:21-46) when the real Jesus actually makes an appearance.

Stratify, stratify, stratify. And actually talk to people about what that means using qualitative strategies. I know it’s the economy AND mass deportations in my neighborhood.

Here in Texas, SB2880, a “pill bill,” contained a provision stripping religious freedom restoration act rights on the issue of abortion.

Judge rules that anti-woke is just racism You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a rancid bigot.

"'Have we no shame?'" Judge William Young asked, in an unmistakeable echo of attorney Joseph Welch, who famously punctured Joe McCarthy’s popularity with his simple plea for decency."

I think I skipped those, too, David, but in my defense I’m not president and since 8th grade I assumed it was slavery and free labor that didn’t lend itself to compromise from the side that got all the benefits.

This quoting 2 Thessalonians drives me crazy. They ignore what Jesus said in Matthew 25:31-46: feed the hungry, individuals and nations, or face “eternal damnation.”

I’m glad Trump stopped even pretending he’s a Christian.
