Delighted that Oswald’s Head Reliquary 🀴 from Hildesheim Cathedral is part of @germanhistsoc.bsky.social’s β€œGlimpses of German History” series, which uses objects as a way to explore Germany’s vibrant and interesting history. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

The lake of Llyn Cerrig Bach, Anglesey-one of those rare places where the veil between then & now can feel like mist, & never more so than, having spent the weekend hunting for its lost Iron Age artefacts, & with its ancient peat ingrained beneath fingernails, someone lifts a carnyx to their lips

And once again the station staff @gwr.com Oxford go out of their way to be helpful and kind. Thank you! Through covid and afterwards, day in, day out, they brighten my days - and smooth things when they get tricky. A jewel in your crown @gwr.com!

I've been trying to build a reading list to help students doing an inter-disciplinary medieval studies degree think about disciplinary differences - which are often more hidden than made explicit. There were some really helpful suggestions in this thread; if anyone has others to add, I'd be glad.

Reminiscent of when @kent.ac.uk's librarians threw away Councils & Synods 1, part ii, thinking it was a duplicate copy... That sinking feeling when I realized I hadn't been hyper-vigilant enough...

'Post-natal depression followed - I could have died' - Banbury woman was too shocked to tell husband of trauma A Banbury woman who suffered birth trauma in the John Radcliffe maternity unit was too shocked to tell her husband for days.

From Mexico to Ireland, Fury Mounts Over a Global A.I. Frenzy

β€œIn Ireland, data centers consume more than 20 percent of the country’s electricity. In Chile, precious aquifers are in danger of depletion. In South Africa, where blackouts have long been routine, data centers are further taxing the national grid.”

The tribalism of social media is such that conversations about patient safety are mostly still only taking place on twitter; this from Michael Buchanan @bbcnews-uk-rss.bsky.social on the announcement of an inquiry into maternity at Leeds is characteristically spot on. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

At the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms conference, Jo Story @insularmss.bsky.social, talked about recent work on currents and I got the impression she was referring to something recently published; if so, I'd love to know what it was.

Hello! It takes a lot of energy to build a new network after so long in "the other place", I'm wary of more precious time lost online but I'm here for art, nature, books & hopefully real community & kindness. Hoping for a few visitors to witchmountain.co.uk too, to keep the wolf from the door.

Can anyone point me to good maps of tides and currents around the British Isles / sailing times as relating to the early middle ages? I'm sure there's something good and recent but I'm struggling to find readily graspable maps for students.
