Almost done literally putting my money where my mouth is by switching from a big corporate bank to my local community bank 💚💸 spent the afternoon updating all my auto payments to the new account, almost all set to close the old accounts

That sounds so cute!
Have you heard of the Tomes & Tea series by Rebecca Thorne? I read a bit of the first and it was fun.
Also enjoyed The House by the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, and have heard good things about its sequel!

Those are the two titles that came to mind right away! 📚

If you’re looking to cancel your audible subscription:
1. First check if your library has access to an eAudio through Hoopla (preferable, no waitlists) or Libby (may have a long hold list).
2. If it’s not, (or you don’t want to wait,) Libro has been my favorite alternative for the last few years!

Just so we’re clear:
1. Audiobooks count
2. Reading is political
3. The orange man is a piece of 💩

Thanks for stopping by 💃

On Tyranny from the 20th Century by Timothy Snyder
1. Do not obey in advance. 2. Defend institutions. 3. Beware the one-party state. 4. Take responsibility for the face of the world. 5. Remember professional ethics. 6. Be wary of paramilitaries. 7. Be reflective if you must be armed. 8. Stand out. 9. Be kind to our language. 10. Believe in truth. 11. Investigate. 12. Make eye contact and small talk. 13. Practice corporeal politics. 14. Establish a private life. 15. Contribute to good causes. 16. Learn from peers in other countries. 17. Listen for dangerous words. 18. Be calm when the unthinkable arrives. 19. Be a patriot. 20. Be as courageous as you can.

Today, I want to remind you of what we can do to fight this for the next 4 years. These are from @timothysnyder.bsky.social

It was a nice chance to reflect. What would your theme be for 2025? For me, pleasure is resistance and resistance is pleasure. Let’s do this.

I want to consume and maybe even write stand up comedy because damn, do we need gallows humor right now. One of my favorite lessons I’ve learned in the last few years is that laughter is resistance, the same as joy is resistance.

I want to express myself more freely with people around me, and actively listen so they feel like they can do the same with me. I want to find the joy in the activities I can do that will ground me in a sense of community that can’t be shattered by outside forces.

I’ve spent the last 5+ years learning and unlearning who I am and what brings me joy. I want to surround myself with the people and community I have carefully curated because I love them all for each individual pleasure and joy they bring into my life.

Anyway, a week ago when I still had some (probably naive) optimism, I knew right away what I wanted my theme to be. 2025 would be my year of pleasure. In the broadest sense of the word, I want to try to prioritize things that bring me pleasure.

Someone in my life recently told me they don’t do new year’s resolutions, but rather opt to pick a theme for the year ahead. A resolution is too specific and easily breakable. A theme is a word or phrase that you can apply to many areas of your life, so it’s less likely to feel like you failed.

Maybe this isn’t the day to post about this, but maybe it is the perfect day in some ways. First time on BlueSky, trying to shout into some void that isn’t under the thumb of 47. So, incoming thread? 🧵
