I was given this with some other records maybe 10 years ago! Finally getting a play.

No idea about that one but the way to tell is at the very end of Brown Girl in the Ring if there's no steel drum over ba ba-ba ba. ba ba. bit it's the alternate.

A batch is a really exciting way of discovering stuff though, isn't it? Let alone upgrades and company sleeves. It's like the record shop came to you!

Ah, yes you're gonna need to fill that 2500 hole!

That Boney M one might hold a couple of alt. mixes, depends very much on the matrix number.

I don't know if we've had this convo before but my parents maybe had 10 records at most and this was one of them: similar but different. I loved Bonaparte's Retreat.

Very quick triaging. Good work!

I have a Sadistic Mika Band album. Looks interesting, on Harvest, you know how it goes.

That's funny and I love a bit of Level 42 in a limited and specific way.

I was working in a charity shop when a Yes live album was being play tested and that was the first time I realised why punk had to happen.

It might be the stunned silence from the recent 10,000 7"s!

Eleven days until I set off on my big trip, so I’d like recommendations for record shops with a decent stash of 7”s in:
New York
Portsmouth NH
Washington DC
San Francisco
Auckland
Wellington
Sydney
Melbourne
Plus what should I pack for a two month trip that might not have occurred to me?

A great deal more proggy than I was expecting!

I did consider clarification. The spaniel had 4 wet feet (he ran across and back again at least once). I had probably already breached both boots but it did equal another dip for one of them if so, so wetter foot. The 4 days of sunshine we had gave me enough oomph to get out in the grey & wet today.

But I had Bold As Brass on a Chysalis sample CD that came with a magazine years and years back and I liked that.

In the UK at least the CD set was good value, I thought: LP sized box though. I recently saw the two discs that were missing from the LP set have since seen release as a double album.

Split Enz was a late find for me. I was intrigued by the laser etched LP and there was the radio docu-series...

I learned today that trying to co-ordinate a jump across a stream with a lively spaniel on a lead (the spaniel, not me) = wet foot.

I got Enzyclopedia Vols. 1 & 2 for Christmas. I didn't know any of the Judd albums aside from the odd track or clip and it was quite a surprise compared to the Neil Finn era.

Yeah, I love the Octopus's Garden bit - very nicely down. Another highlight for me is the way Lucy In The Sky builds into the intro. Loads of things to spot throughout the album.

Very fond of this. Really freshened things up. I bought the surround mix which was mostly excellent, slightly longer, and caused problems with most players on the higher res section due to a layer change at the end of Back in the USSR.

...although that was a Christmas gift from a Great Uncle. I dipped out of music in the early 80s - maybe also 1981- but I took a less cool route than you: Hooked on Classics! I think I came back around 83/84, and despite thinking I'd always love current/pop music I faded away again due to...

I think I might be a bit younger than you, I think I became aware of pop music around 1979 although I remember hearing Rivers of Babylon/Brown Girl in the Ring on an older 'youth's' transistor radio on the beach, and being aware of Bright Eyes which was the first number 1 single I had...
