It's truly stunning. Yesterday and today... I'm making the most of it. (Of course, I'm also lucky enough to be on medical leave right now and spending a lot of time recuperating sitting under the sun in my back garden).

Cannot agree more. I'm 56 and, by genetic lottery, ended up with grade 4 arthritis in both hips. Just had the first of two total hip replacements. Take every opportunity to protect yourself from falls, and from anything that might result in permanent joint damage.

Update: I'm 3 weeks post-op for the first of two total hip replacements. Healing amazingly quickly and walking with *no* joint pain, without a cane or other assistance. This is everything I'd hoped it would be. I go in for the other hip in 5 weeks. By next year, I hope to be fully bionic.

This very much reminds me of Peter Norvig's thing about test driven development. You can't write tests for something you don't understand, i.e. don't have a complete theory for. All the tests in the world won't get you there. Relying on LLMs for the theory fails in the same fashion.

Oh, on that we agree. It's totally a proxy war. I just think it should have been much more than 1/2 a billion to remove any doubt about both our resolve and the outcome.

I've been dealing with severe lower back and hip pain for about 2 years. PT gave very little relief. Thought it was disc, so I got an MRI - back looks great. Spine specialist said "let's x-ray the hips". - I have Grade 4 osteoarthritis in both. I'm 56 and looking at bilateral hip replacement

I enjoyed my linux desktop experience, but now I have too many apps that simply aren't supported. I've flipped to Mac for productivity, but a really short network connection to a powerful linux server for everything else. It's a constant tug of war between apps & dev stuff.

I hear ya. I really tried going "all WSL" at one point and then just kept running into rough edges. I *love* all the additional support the big players are putting in, but it's still *not really* Linux and sometimes that matters.
