I am much older than you are, and I took a semester of actual touch-typing on an IBM Selectric III in high school *and* I still had that feeling. Too real.
I very nearly bought an old school like this, but then I had someone do a walkthrough for me and found the same on both counts. It would take 5-10x the cost to refurbish and the heating costs (central Montana winters) would be astronomical.
When we first chose a home to rent in Cape Town, I picked a place in Newlands and everyone I worked with paused for a moment and said ..."uh, you know it *rains* there, right?". We were coming from Seattle and I accidentally picked the wettest place on the Western Cape to live.

I've recently had similar conversations with some fairly senior FAANG engineers and managers. My concern is that managers specifically, who are pushing very hard for AI usage, are not thinking about these factors as economic externalities, i.e. they think quality comes for free.
