One of the sillier aspects of combating issues like this is that as the corpos start to realize they donβt actually have wide support, they start going silent. CS did the same after about the 3rd week
The lack of feedback can have a pseudo-chilling effect on activists, donβt let it

Reasons I will wear an N95 when teaching this fall 2025:
- WHO still classifies COVID-19 as a pandemic
- WHO still recommends masking in indoor public spaces
- 5 years watching long-COVID progressively disable my husband
- don't like participating in eugenics
- want to protect my cats and your kids

A piece of vintage line art of an ecstatic human face, wearing a buckled collar, is cropped to focus just on the neck and collarbone area. Text reads:
My connection to and rituals around my day collar are living practices that I may choose to change over time. This reflection is one tool in that ongoing process, helping to make sure that the rituals I create serve me in safe and positive ways.
I am a good puppy.

Many sex workers, artists, and creatives have already been subject to aggressive censorship & the communal effort to fight bad faith censorship policies is ongoing. This is an important time to step up & support those subject to crackdowns with money, affirmation, info sharing, & collective action.

A piece of vintage line art of an ecstatic human face, wearing a buckled collar. Text above reads "Self Collaring and Self Care." Text below reads "A reflection on personal ritual practice."
I started wearing a collar as part of a ritual practice of self care. Iβd had jobs that required uniforms, where coming home and casting off the uniform to put on something comfortable and cozy and personally chosen was a really powerful sensory anchor, helping me disconnect mentally from work and mentally prime myself to relax and take care of my needs.
I was also inspired by a comic I ran into on tumblr where the artist sidecast-text depicts themselves turning from a human into a dog when a timer goes off, creating a zone of βdog timeβ where they have to set aside computer tasks and take a break because dogs donβt have opposable thumbs.
I bought myself a necklace with a magnetic lock-shaped clasp, and started putting it on when I came home from work. Over time, itβs grown into an increasingly detailed and conscious ritual practice that I find incredibly emotionally and physically anchoring. I wrote up a personal reflection on how I use self collaring as a self care tool, and I offer it to others here in the hopes that it can inspire you to create and maintain ritual practices that nourish and support you in similar ways.
There is no one right way to wear a collar. There are personal, cultural, and stylistic layers to how others engage with the premise - this one is solely mine, and I offer it freely to help spur on the imaginations of others.
My day collar is a focusing tool that supports my self care. It helps me build comforting, joyous daily rituals that affirm my right and ability to set boundaries, experience desire, nurture my queerness and transness, and seek joy and rest.
I strive to wear my day collar only when I am doing at least one of the following:
Doing something for myself that brings me joy in some way, or that I've actively chosen for positive reasons, like:
β’ being social with friends
β’ making art
β’ playing games
β’ cooking something delicious
Intentionally engaging with a pup headspace, which (for me) can include elements of service, submission, ferality, and/or rest as resistance:
β’ getting pets and affection
β’ napping/resting
β’ attending a kink event
β’ doing a task upon command from a trusted partner (could be something small, like barking, something useful, like taking out the trash, or something self care-oriented, like taking myself to bed)
I do not wear my day collar at work, when I'm doing something important to me where I'm likely to experience high stress (like at a protest), or in situations where I don't want to potentially be asked to explain its significance (like going through airport security).
Before I go to bed, I take off my day collar, re-latch it, kiss the latch, and hang it in a designated place near my bed. If I'm not sleeping in my regular place, I still try to do the ritual in much the same way, but set or hang the necklace wherever feels most convenient and safe for the given setting.
I am in charge of the management/maintenance of my day collar, and when I choose to wear it. The rituals I've built for myself are not absolute, and there aren't punishments for breaking them. The only consequences are naturally occurring ones - if I forget to put on my day collar in a situation where I'd like to be wearing it, for example, I may feel sad when I notice that lack.
I can, and often do, choose to invite partners to engage with my day collar via touch/use of it in sensory play, and through interactions with me as a pup. It is not dependent on partners - it is a valuable tool for my own care and personal growth independent of others, and my partners are not in charge of how, when, or why I wear it. Their ability to engage with my day collar is offered as a gift, not as a right or obligation.
Of course I would end up making a #perzine about collars and self care right around the time that itchio, the place where I generally host zines (and a number of sites generally, due to payment processor BS and pressure from fearmongering groups) does a crackdown on NSFW content.

A closeup of a pile of very tiny zines folded out of cut-up sticky notes, sitting on top of a larger zine folded out of notebook paper. The larger zineβs pages contain loosely sketched out ideas for mini zines written/drawn in ballpoint pen, one about stinging nettles and grief and one about trans survival and community.
I have this vision of printing super micro mini zines on Rite in the Rain paper so that theyβre weather resistant and can hold up better as custom charms on earrings - I still have to see how actual design tests look/feel once my paper order arrives, but Iβm enjoying riffing on the idea already!

When I originally wrote Riding the Ley Line and formatted it as a zine, my goal was to make it look like a bus pass or a folded map, but I didn't quite have the technical know-how at the time to make that layout work how I wanted it to. In the Dahlia's Diversions version, it truly is a transit map!
