It's Libra by DeLillo for me, for the language (that shrieking metro scene at the beginning...), for the way the gaps in the 'facts' of Oswald are filed so densely and so strangely, for the creep towards *the event* over decades.

'Making Things Real Again' is quite a ridiculous story TBH, a wondering what might have happened had Russian Formalist Viktor Shklovsky dragged his ideas (and his prodigious temper) up a big hill. It was longlisted for the
@desperatelit.bsky.social prize last year.

La Piccioletta Barca | Witnesses - by Paul Tucker
The following is adapted from transcripts of sub-frequency audio recordings that youโll remember...
My story 'Witnesses' has been published by La Piccioletta Barca. It's loosely about land and movement and home. It's also based on an excellent Jock McFadyen painting, Pink Flats.

I (British, living in London) was chatting to an American I met recently who has just moved to the UK but has toured widely (not just the US, but also the UK, Europe and beyond) with quite a successful band, and he asked me quite innocently, "have you visited mainland Europe?"

A quote from the story: "My mother unhooks birds from the sky as if theyโre cheap earrings that will turn her earlobes green. She tosses them into the cavern of her mouth and makes her mind a sky.
My mother tells me not to think so much. That the moment I consider myself a failure, I take my foot off the neck of this rotten world.
Because Iโll never have to live without knowing her, my mother will never die. Some lives are so wide that they can hold the whole of your own within them."
This is an incredible piece of fiction from K-Ming Chang in Guernica. I don't know how you write like this. t.co/MOWlK8ezLi

Teju Cole quoted in the New York Times. โThatโs what trying to work with unconventional forms feels like: Youโre crossing the bridge while youโre constructing the bridge,โ he said. โI want people to read my work and think, โWait, I didnโt know that was allowed.โ Any book that is finding its own form is implicitly saying, โWell, itโs allowed now.โโ
I love this from Teju Cole. Part of the reason fiction (and cinema) connect is that his bridge analogy is how life works as well. Keep building bridges!
