Yeah, it was real fucked up. I actually laughed when they were talking to me. Feel like I have an fbi agent in my phone rn.

I went through security and everything. Apparently, I was flagged by a stop at a train station the other day. They said, “all they were doing was trying to exclude me from the search.” Like alright. Took my partner’s number to check if I was home for their time of their search and everything.

Like, ok. so apparently somebody did something, and did I look like the person in the photo they had? like yeah. I even laughed cuz I was like, ok keffiyeh, leather, baggy pants, eye liner, similar face structure. But just shows how they can easily just attach shit to u. They were waiting at my gate

Literally this. Like what do you mean I have to submit grades on a secret website instead of using the website that I’m grading my students on…. And yeah I’m so not surprised by that, it’s kinda a trial-by-fire. I tried to ask people yesterday and they were all offline 😭😂 joys of academia

Funny thing about teaching at a uni as a PhD student is that nobody tells u about the faculty site to submit grades/see ur class roster pics/etc and u kinda just have to stumble on it

Usually I practice when he is in his afternoon nap-time in the other room, but he really loves when I bring his tree to the living room to nap while I read and compose…

So I practice guitar at home like 3-6 hours a day when I can but I have an issue, my cat is afraid of my guitar. I’m trying to train him to, uh, tolerate being in the same room as it when it’s in my arms but damn what a slow process.

My biggest op in class this quarter sent me this note today 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Show the kids that reading and thinking is cool and you’ll find that even those that were skeptical find their footing in it eventually!!!

AHHH and don’t tell me students don’t love reading!!! I don’t believe it and never will!!! No matter the institution!!! Because everybody found the reading and class discussion so important to deconstructing what they knew about sound!

I’m really blown away by how much these kids embraced experimental sounds. When I thanked them and said well that was the class, I felt the weight of how much our time together meant. Really feeling melancholic and fortunate.

Final projects gory course ate amazing. A student destroyed a Billy Joel album over a period of a week and recorded it, someone made a python script that actualizes a mathematical problem, another made a text score that asks you to reflect on an objects parts, someone made a track for their ep.

Read Demer’s “listening through the noise” and Sword’s “Monolithic Undertow” this week w them. My student deemed Demer’s chapter “maximal objects” to be genius.

My undergrad non-major composition students and I discussed what is a drone for an hour and a half yesterday. Some fun answers were it being a ratio of “aesthetic vs empirical time” and is it only a drone when it stops?

Charlie Kirk died so that third year college students can write like highschool freshmen and then cry to the media to get teachers fired for not giving them good grades.
