But the corporate that calls itself the Co-Op won't face any penalty for destroying the frontage of these Seven Dials premises, which date back to the 1840s, or ripping out the lovely old tiles inside one of them, in pursuit of a local monopoly. 15.07.2025 08:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That Co-op has a poster in the window about how its members own it, but it's a faceless corporate that won't respond to members questioning why it wants to evict its neighbours, destroy buildings that have been part of the place's character since the 1840s, and make itself a local monopoly #brighton

23.06.2025 13:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What about the bonfires, and the water rituals β future spouse divination β that don't involve bathing? The pre-Christian theory would seem to have far wider explanatory scope. As well as romantic appeal ;)
22.06.2025 08:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Text from Ronald Hutton's Stations of the Sun, describing 4th-century account of pagans in SW France rolling a burning wheel down a hill to river.
Though we do have at least one account of a pagan fire ritual during the early Christian era. What they did in C4 France was basically the same as what Ukrainians have done in this century, only they didn't have car tyres to set alight.

Yet their work was uniquely powerful in commanding attention and respect from people who were otherwise deeply sceptical about EP (according to my recollection anyway)

19.06.2025 08:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ah. I dare say this is what happens when liberals become obsessed with perceived threats from the left and stop looking in the other direction.
16.06.2025 11:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Surprised by the suggestion, tbh. Does this mean people still believe the old sectarian-left line, 'scratch a liberal and you'll find a fascist'?
