11.06.2025 07:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Keep thinking about this... Johnny Mnemonic... Neuromancer... where's cool ICE T?
09.03.2025 05:17 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We've never been the smartest. This kind of destruction is welcomed by communities that have felt left behind since the mid-60s. They want everyone to suffer like they feel everyone has made them suffer. Especially experts who they feel ruined their lives during COVID and with too many regulations.
25.02.2025 08:30 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Currently, I just wish I knew whether or not to write grants, cause I have a lot of data to analyze and publish, but my time keeps being dominated by work that is likely meaningless. If it makes the most sense to pretend federal funding is gone, then I would like to focus on state funding.
19.02.2025 16:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah. I totally feel that. The persistence of panic and severe depression is palpable. I think it is best to focus on what can be done, if there is anything good that can come out of this situation and fight for that; and obstruct or resign when you believe you have been pushed past your limit.
19.02.2025 16:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Science does not exist in a vacuum. At the current rate, a lot of science will not exist at all in the good old USA.
19.02.2025 16:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Imagine the new cancers we'll have to study in 10 years... wait what?!? They're already here?
18.02.2025 23:27 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Me too! But the NIH!
18.02.2025 23:25 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Microplastics and PFOS? Maybe the petroleum and chemical companies will have the mustard to oppose him?

13.02.2025 18:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The issue is I have one voice, one vote, and about $300k in debt between student loans and mortgage. Money is speech now. Rather than discussing what process and what speech can face an illegal executive, there needs to be enforcement of court rulings or consequences. No consequences, who cares?
12.02.2025 08:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0$171 million per year worth.
11.02.2025 03:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Any opinion on postdoc diversity supplement preparation... or should I advise my student to shoot for RLK NRSA?
11.02.2025 01:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think a general annual public accounting released by each institution would be sufficient.
10.02.2025 04:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'll await your proposal getting accepted by Trump's NIH... you know the guy who doesn't pay contractors. Sometimes, it is more about what we can do than what is fair. My mother was an RN and we had to be homeless for a year after she broke her back at work... twice... don't tell me about unfair
10.02.2025 03:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When Americans shoot themselves in the foot, they kill a lot of other people too. And not just in the health sphere. Climate, Education and FOOD.
09.02.2025 23:51 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0(=C=)
10.02.2025 00:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yup, we are developing new sensors that can non-invasively scan brains at much lower costs. That work arose from quantum effects first seen in nanodiamonds.
09.02.2025 23:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Can only really do so on a lab-per-lab basis. For example, I plan to include a regulatory compliance/IRB person in my next R01, given it includes a complex clinical trial. You can't put a university grant manager on most types of grants. This extends to a lot of personnel. A janitor? No way.
09.02.2025 23:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Universities need to issue public accounts of where indirect cost dollars go (in dollars and cents in plain English). Lack of transparency is what makes this so successful. If an academic medical center is paying a hospital exorbitant overhead and fees for clinical services, that won't look good.
09.02.2025 21:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I remember when we at least pretended these were core U.S. of American values. The last 3 weeks have shown me they are not.
09.02.2025 21:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We should keep an eye open on government auctions
08.02.2025 21:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To be honest, it took me some instruction to understand how to calculate indirect for subawards. Does that mean maybe expertise is useful? Hmmm.... couldn't be
08.02.2025 18:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Being openly racist will very soon be a requirement.
08.02.2025 18:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Many people inside of academia are helping this process. Universities have been too tolerant of anti-science opinions for too long.
08.02.2025 17:24 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This will be a long process. 1) there will (hopefully) be lawsuits filed next week, 2) there will be momentary budget shortfalls to compensate for, and 3) no one is going to want to telegraph their legal strategy. Remember, the new NIH director candidate is a professor at Johns Hopkins.
08.02.2025 17:22 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wonder if national labs will cut their rates as well; all of their indirect rates are north of 70%.
08.02.2025 14:54 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0A majority of people who voted for this guy believe the vaccines caused more death than COVID. They are hopelessly brainwashed and now they're going to shorten everyone's life expectancy.
08.02.2025 14:47 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean, it's obvious, right? Th board saw an opening to reduce opportunities to people from backgrounds that are different from theirs. Wouldn't want any trouble makers questioning meritocracy.
