The first 1/3 of this book is spot on, but then it seemed like Robinson chickened out and wrote a completely different book in the back 2/3rd. But yeah, the coming age of heat dome mass casualty events will be here soon enough.

Let me explain the stakes and how we got here.

At the rate I'm cancelling streaming services, by the end of the year all I'll have left is my record player and book stack.

I don't get the volcano, but I like the feathers. It seems simple, but feels more subversive the longer I look at it.

I bought a record player as an incremental step towards quitting the internet. I now love going record shopping.

A smart European strategy for electric vehicle investment from China Chinese EV investment aids EU decarbonisation but brings risks, needing a united EU strategy to align it with climate, industrial and security aims

The EU faces difficult industrial policy questions. One of them is how to deal with Chinese investments in Europe’s electric vehicle supply chains. In this new paper we argue that Europe should be open to such investments, but with strong conditionality.

"Train is the new private jet." Dua Lipa continues to promote taking the train over flying, boarding a Eurostar to London at Gare du Nord. This is climate-conscious messaging done right. Posted by lejeuneengage on IG.

Evaluating the impact of two decades of USAID interventions and projecting the effects of defunding on mortality up to 2030: a retrospective impact evaluation and forecasting analysis USAID funding has significantly contributed to the reduction in adult and child mortality across low-income and middle-income countries over the past two decades. Our estimates show that, unless the a...

Elon Musk casually, and illegally, dismantled USAID. According to a new study in the Lancet, that action will lead to *14 million* premature deaths between 2025 and 2030.

Again: Elon Musk is directly responsible for 14 million coming deaths. 4.5 million will be children.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.

Statement from Tristan Kern de Gonzales
Husband of Jonathan Joss

My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.

Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.

When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.

While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.

Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.

Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.

He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.

I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.

To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family.

My focus now is on protecting Jonathan’s legacy and honoring the life we built together.

If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.

Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.

    Tristan Kern de Gonzales

Jonathan Joss--voice actor of John Redcorn from King of the Hill, and Ken Hotate from Parks and Rec--was killed in a homophobic hate crime today.

I'm so angry.

I like to think that rest is an act of resistance. How can we persevere if we're burned out? That being said, I need to get back to my To-Do list...
