Doyel: My mom dies, and Iβm reminded β you remind me β weβre not going through this alone
My mom dies, but I'm not going through this alone. Powerful stories fill this week's Mailbagg, including a reader's personal story of life after death
The man on the right? A HS principal I met in 2015. Wonderful man. That's his wife on the left, and their kids.
He died of cancer. I found out from a reader who read about my Mom, and told me about his brother, Keith Fessler of New Pal.
Column is open.

Colts captain Zaire Franklin:
"I think after we played L.A., we realized that we're that team. We're a team that's a test for everybody else, and everybody else needs to start responding to how WE play."

Doyel: Your heart could go out to Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. No really, it could.
Shedeur Sanders vs. Rex Ryan: Who you got, and why? Both are bombastic. Both were born on third base. Only one's been under attack since he was a kid.
ESPN loudmouth Rex Ryan ripped Browns QB Shedeur Sanders for talking too much. Shedeur's response: Answering media questions without using his voice.
Nobody's right if everyone's wrong.
But one of these dudes is REALLY wrong.

Colts might just be really good. And fatally flawed.

Doyel: They said WR Adonai Mitchell looked a lot better at Colts camp. They weren't lying.
You noticed how much Colts WR Adonai Mitchell struggled in 2024. Did you notice how good he looked at 2025 camp? How good he looked Sunday vs. Miami?
Colts WR Adonai Mitchell has been one of the most improved players on the team this season, but that Jonathan Taylor-like fumble to cost himself a TD vs. Rams will overshadow all of that.
From earlier, on the rising AD Mitchell:

Column | Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon is acting like a boss, no notes
After inheriting the team from her father, she is captivating NFL broadcasts like no woman has.
Watch any NFL game, and women are everywhere. During these broadcasts, however, women are introduced in a way that comes across as merely complementary.
That is until, Colts owner & CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon fills the screen.

Doyel: IU is heading toward the top of college football. So is quarterback Fernando Mendoza
When IU returns to the College Football Championship and Fernando Mendoza heads to NYC for Heisman Trophy ceremony, remember the play that beat Iowa.
Iβm writing about Indiana footballβs latest win, and I get caught up in the emotions of it all, and pretty soon Iβve got #iufb making it back into the CFP field and Fernando Mendoza making it to NYC for the Heisman ceremony.
One day later? Not sorry.

Doyel: The Fever were a super team. Can they be super while again facing elimination?
Red-hot Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever caught a chill vs Las Vegas, shooting themselves out of Game 3 β and onto the brink of elimination.
The Fever-Aces playoff series has been like so many WNBA games this season: horribly officiated. The near-violence is out of control, as we saw last night at Game 3. Both coaches have given amazing sound bites.
And the visuals on the floor are absurd.
