Daugherty Lab @ UCSD

Some cool work with the www.daughertylab.org at UCSD is up! Started by looking at how IFIT2/3 inhibit VSV infection, wound up uncovering a new mechanism for translation inhibition of mRNAs with short 5'UTRs pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41093992

QKI ensures splicing fidelity during cardiogenesis by engaging the U6 tri-snRNP to activate splicing at weak 5ΚΉ splice sites During organogenesis, precise pre-mRNA splicing is essential to assemble tissue architecture. Many developmentally essential exons bear weak 5'splice sites (5'SS) yet are spliced with high precision, ...

Many conserved exons in the heart and brain utilize weak 5 β€² splice sites, yet they are accurately spliced. But how? We show that splicing fidelity is actively enforced through a QKI-U6 checkpoint at the U1β†’U6 handover in essential cardiac genes during organogenesis.

Excited to share some new work from our group - www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A great collaboration with @kurianlab.bsky.social that began with how an RBP (QKI) controls cardiomyocyte function, and led to uncovering a unique mechanism of direct interaction with U6 & the tri-snRNP at weak 5'SS

With pending NIH support, we also anticipate having at least 20 travel awards for trainees to attend – more details on that to follow soon

We’ve got a good mix of exciting talks on various aspects of how RNA biology both influences and is controlled by tumorigenesis, and we’d love to have more folks join our effort to continue cross-pollinating these exciting fields! Abstract deadline is Aug 25th

Mapping snoRNA-target RNA interactions in an RNA-binding protein-dependent manner with chimeric eCLIP - Genome Biology Background Small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) are non-coding RNAs that function in ribosome and spliceosome biogenesis, primarily by guiding modifying enzymes to specific sites on ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and...

Happy to say our paper with the Whipple lab on snoRNA target profiling with chimeric eCLIP is now out! Great work by co-first authors Joey & Min with the help of a bunch of other folks!

(re-post) Happy to share that our preprint on using chimeric eCLIP to map snoRNA interactions (and find new non-canonical snoRNA:RBP subnetworks) is now up! A fun co-collaboration with the great @LabWhipple lab, and great work by Joey, Min, and others!
