Essentially, Dr Ally Louks and the reaction to her thesis could in itself be a thesis - but to round off, the reaction from (mostly) US accts. to her personally, and PhD's in general, should be a huge concern for UK & European lefties... & decent folk.

The Left desperately needs to either embrace Populism, or find an antidote to it. Starmer's 'ride the wave' mentality is stoic: but I'm not sure if the wave will ever dissipate and the approach may lose ground to, say, Reform.
I'm worried for academia - and my friends and colleagues.

The Right is truly on the rise around Europe. It seems fairly rosy - UK elected a Labour govt, France rejected Le Pen... but you dig into those results to find they're fragile, temporary, and results elsewhere are giving us a taste of what's to come... If, for example, UK, don't govern effectively.

I think I may have logged off of Twitter for the last time. This PhD discourse has really worried me. Ok, Twitter, not real life - but it quite often carries over, and seeing academia being attacked in the states, vitriolically, has me increasingly concerned about the state of affairs in the West.
