Wouldnβt it be weird if we found out that Fox News was primarily oriented around getting people to watch Fox News? /s
07.02.2026 17:50 β π 43 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0(I have decided itβs both)
07.02.2026 17:10 β π 63 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I donβt know if this is agreeing with me or critiquing me π
07.02.2026 17:06 β π 57 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Media theory that assumes that beliefs are persuaded into existence rather than mostly evolutionarily selected for by the structures of human minds and social groups never sit right with me.
07.02.2026 16:59 β π 957 π 30 π¬ 57 π 3It seems to me like one thing AI would be terrible at is absolutely everything the Civilian Conservation Corps did.
07.02.2026 15:18 β π 1215 π 81 π¬ 18 π 5JD Vance looking smug after being asked whether he would apologize to the family of Alex Pretti.
βFor whatβ
05.02.2026 03:32 β π 1515 π 100 π¬ 118 π 33Depends on what you mean by "On Taskmaster"
04.02.2026 16:15 β π 55 π 0 π¬ 6 π 0And I have heard that part of my duty as Board Chair is fundraising. So, hello world...if you'd like to be part of this work...and part of the founding of Complexly as a non-profit, our new website is Complexly.org. We will very happily take your donations!!
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 952 π 58 π¬ 20 π 0There needs to be high-quality, attention grabbing content that delivers value and has an allegiance to the truth. We have LOTS of ideas for how to deliver more value and we think this is the best way to enable that work.
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 767 π 8 π¬ 3 π 0That's how we've been acting, that's what drives us forward, that's what's actually interesting to us. It's a public good and that's how we've been treating it. John and I haven't taken profit distributions from Complexly in over a decade anyway!
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 692 π 6 π¬ 2 π 0But John and Julie (Complexly's CEO) and the rest of the leadership team and I hit this thing from every angle and, look, our goal isn't any of those things. Our goal is to get people curious and help them learn...to make learning and teaching easier by making videos PEOPLE CHOOSE TO USE!
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 868 π 11 π¬ 2 π 0I'm a business guy, so I actually see the potential value in that. The question of whether we could have more impact by going down one of those paths is, for me, actually not clear. We've considered those options!!
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 592 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Any normal business finding itself in Complexly's position (with shows used in pretty much every school district in the US) would be selling freemium subscription plans or doing sales meetings with school administrators or positioning itself for sale to an ed-tech platform.
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 716 π 4 π¬ 4 π 0A question reporters keep asking me is "why" and "why now?" The reality is that Complexly, as a business, has always been dedicated to creating way more value than it captures, which means we've been making weird decisions.
04.02.2026 16:11 β π 763 π 5 π¬ 2 π 0DETAILS!!!
I will keep doing my work at Complexly as a content strategist and host, while John is becoming a "founder emeritus." I'll also be on our new board of directors which we are still in the process of building!
But now we have gone from owning 100% to owning 0% because, for the last month, Complexly has been a non-profit organization.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
As of January 1st 2026, John and I are **no longer** the owners of Complexly (the educational media company we started 15 years ago that makes Crash Course, Eons, SciShow, Study Hall, and a bunch of other shows.)
We have been the sole owners for all that time...
Points.
31.01.2026 18:53 β π 285 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I literally heard a very famous silicon valley guy list housing among the things that AI will make cheap and I was like "Wow. You literally have no idea how anything works, huh."
30.01.2026 20:44 β π 1756 π 66 π¬ 55 π 1I know this is the wrong crowd for this but, I have an important test that I apply to new technologies that people think are going to fix everything. I ask "how does this help with the housing crisis?"
Invariably (so far) it does not.
It's up!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Qd...
30.01.2026 17:40 β π 370 π 10 π¬ 20 π 2This is bothering me because it sounds like you think you understand my mind better than I do, is that right?
30.01.2026 17:33 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Anybody have any questions for a question Tuesday video (on Friday)?
30.01.2026 15:51 β π 310 π 12 π¬ 154 π 1This gets us one step closer toward the final form of Tesla, where the only thing it sells is pieces of paper that say βwe swear this isnβt a Ponzi scheme.β
30.01.2026 04:28 β π 4363 π 624 π¬ 101 π 17Yall really showed up in the replies hereβ¦ A+
30.01.2026 01:41 β π 1048 π 31 π¬ 12 π 0I mean, not a terrible show format, honestly.
29.01.2026 16:08 β π 129 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0An image from a scientific paper showing two people stuffed into some kind of scanning machine and the resulting scan. I think the scan is actually a CT, but the principle remains! Also shown is a crosssection of the resulting scans.
Turns out it would be pretty easy to substantially lower the cost of MRIs.
29.01.2026 16:07 β π 1821 π 112 π¬ 117 π 29I'm doing a poll with a polling firm right now. Wild that you can just do that...
29.01.2026 16:03 β π 803 π 9 π¬ 24 π 3If the medium is the message, then the message of algorithmic content platforms is not expression or connection or freedom. It is salience above all else.
This is what is happening to us on these platforms. They cannot behave any other way.
It does not just change how you understand reality, it changes how you engage with that reality. When we know that our speech will be silenced if it does not capture and hold attention, we alter our behavior to say only the most attention-grabbing things.
