In the midst of all the terribleness, one of the guys who works in my building asked if I can help him find the relatives of a Jewish family his great uncle hid in Kosovo for a few weeks in his homeduring the Holocaust, then smuggled into Albania for safety. (1/2)

Many Exporters No Longer Want Dollars, US Bank Executive Says When Paula Comings, the head of currency sales for US Bancorp, talks to US importers, she increasingly hears the same message: Their foreign counterparties no longer want to be paid in dollars.

Another sign that the dollar’s dominance is in trouble: US importers are increasingly being asked by their foreign counterparties to settle transactions in currencies other than the US dollar, such as euros, RMB, Mexican pesos, and Canadian dollars.

Your senators should get an extra phone call about this issue alone. This is the exact opposite of government efficiency.

'But AI is great for story generation.' No it's not. Experience and critical thinking are good for story generation. Thinking about what makes a story and messing around and researching generates stories real humans want to read. People do not seem to understand that developing the work is the work.

one big reason beltway journalists shouldn’t buy white house spin about los angeles is that the actual public opinion info we have doesn’t suggest the president has a winning hand here

What journalists should know in advance of the U.S. v. Skrmetti U.S. Supreme Court decision In advance of what will likely be a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in the U.S. v. Skrmetti case, the Trans Journalists Association offers the following guidance to reporters, newsrooms, and othe...

fyi fellow courtwatchers

the Supreme Court could release its opinion in US v Skrmetti (the case about denying healthcare to trans kids) as early as tomorrow, so this is a good time to review @transjournalists.org guidance on how to cover the case responsibly

We are in the midst of turning the world’s powerful military away from its focus on Russia and China towards a new enemy - the American people themselves.

Trump keeps working as hard as he can to make Russia and China again.

If any Democratic president used a military audience as partisan prop, Republicans would melt down. The press would melt down. It was considered unthinkable until Trump showed R's and the media that oligarchic rule was within their reach.

Democrats should introduce articles of impeachment for RFK jr
Even if it doesn’t work, which it probably won’t, democrats need to make clear that he’s not gonna get away with it

It's infuriating that so many people didn't heed the warnings.

I mean, scholars of fascism were like, “He’s going to attack universities, the media, and unions, and he’s going to arrest his political opponents,” and most of America was like, “Stop exaggerating.”

Thousands of New Yorkers march in lower Manhattan calling for ICE out of New York.

Starting at Foley Square and organized by PSL, the masses have flooded the streets and are moving west. This demo is permitted but even if it wasn’t, it would be far too large for NYPD to contain.

The whole gop is irredeemable at this point. Just poison all the way to the root

Stopped by the anti-ICE protest at Federal Plaza after work. The vibe from the police was waaaay different than at a protest there a month ago. Much more massive police presence, lined up elbow to elbow surrounding the plaza. Totally unnecessary escalation.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

BREAKING: We're asking a court to stop the Trump administration's fast-track deportation policy.

ICE should not be able to arrest people at their immigration appointments and deport them without any due process.

My Kohler Smart Toilet, modestly showed closed. It is generally oblong.

Real talk re: technology - I get far more daily utility and quality of life value out of my "smart" toilet, with its heated seat, lighted bowl, automatic flushing and massaging bidet functionality, than any bit of "AI" currently being foisted onto the market, with far less environmental degradation.

An LAPD helicopter claimed to have ID'ed protesters from above and threatened to "come to your house" The practice, an expert warns, could lead to "reprisals and retribution by the police for your politics.”

Threats to use surveillance to punish people exercising their First Amendment rights are fundamentally antidemocratic and raise serious constitutional concerns.

We will not let law enforcement intimidate us into silence.

Unbelievable! So many people would beg to have that job. If you don't want to do it properly, then quit.

It was done to the Irish too, in Britain for centuries and in the early days of immigration to America.

If we respond to their violence with violence, they will declare martial law.

If we protest peacefully, they will declare martial law.

If we stay home and hide, they will declare martial law.

It is impossible to avoid a confrontation with someone who is intent on starting a fight.

You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse.

Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

Wonder what was different the last time a POTUS deployed the National Guard against a Governor's wishes?

It was in Alabama, and LBJ deployed the National Guard to PROTECT civil rights protesters. To protect the rights and lives of protesters.
