❓To what extent is political trust socialised vs evaluative? Today I presented new research with @lindestals.bsky.social at the Belgian State of the Federation Conference.

Two key findings:
👪 Trusting parents have trusting children
📰 Adolescents are (almost) as evaluative as their parents.

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the IP-PAD research day, where I presented the key findings of my PhD on adolescents’ political trust. It was a great event, with generous colleagues always ready to share advice. Now I start the final months of my PhD, preparing to defend next year! 😱📚

There are many parallels between publishing papers and putting a baby asleep. An endless 🧵

1. it takes longer than you think.
2. there are strategies, but it‘s essentially trial + error.
3. don‘t let them out of your hands too early, it‘ll fail
4. you usually hear back from them sooner than hoped

Opinie: ‘Vanaf 16 jaar stemmen?

📢 New publication: we draw on unique data from 16- and 17-year-old Belgian adolescents who were eligible to vote in the 2024 European elections, and show that low trust in order and representative institutions is linked to protest and radical voting. @dieterstiers.bsky.social @annakern.bsky.social
