NASA finally posted their annual ROSES call for proposals, five months late. I was hoping to apply for the Astrophysics Theory program, which is offered every other year. This should be an on year, but it’s not there. Of course, Harvard isn’t currently eligible for federal grants anyway.

Would have preferred Alcaraz, but Sinner played great. Looks like we’re in the era of the big two for the foreseeable future.

Although mainstream is probably just as difficult to define as what constitutes evidence for partonic W’s and Z’s😅

Just saw July 2 was Hans Bethe’s birthday. He passed away at 97 while I was in grad school at Cornell. He wasn’t really around at that point, but maintained a well-deserved almost mythical stature on campus (at least in physics).

Yeah I heard that one, I’ve always taken that as an indirect jab at anyone wanting to do the same collider later given that the next 5yr plan will be before CERN council decides 😉 it’s still amusing that 11 MS want to go ahead with FCCee even if CEPC goes forward w/construction starting much earlier

That’s consistent with what I’ve heard from others there. Glad we submitted that ~400 pg doc with tons of physics studies showing the great capabilities and a costing just above the full FCCee🤦🏻‍♂️ You’d think it’d be the perfect backup for CERN if CEPC goes ahead but not showing the physics was weird…

Was very telling to see how many physics curves were wrong or omitted for the muon collider despite being PPG inputs🧐

Great opportunity to work with an awesome physicist and person on muon colliders!

I mean it’s better than thinking it’s model independent😅 but indeed there are a lot of misconceptions about EFT out there in both theory and experiment

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years.

NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."
