I remember loving the short story "A Sound of Thunder" when I read it in middle school like 20 years ago. That one might even still hold up well today, but I doubt everything will.

Going back to "The Evil Dead", the first one is still fun, but it's way more "we're using my uncle's cabin in the woods to shoot a movie" campy. The second movie nails down the horror-comedy vibe that the series is known for, and leads directly into "Army of Darkness."

Also with "The Shining" make sure you watch the Stanley Kubrick film. The author of the book, Stephen King, hated it and had his own movie made, but it's widely regarded to be much worse.

If you want to watch "The Evil Dead", I'd recommend watching "The Evil Dead 2" instead. The first was director Sam Raimi's 2nd film ever, and as such was shot with almost no budget. "Evil Dead 2" was released 6 years later after Raimi had gotten some attention, and is a higher budget remake.
