We need to start talking about how to deal with increasing hoards of unemployable people once AI begins to gobble up large portions of the jobs held by actual people. I have some thoughts about this.

Perhaps if the surviving family members of every dead immigrant will just sue ICE over the death then we might tie up enough DOJ lawyers defending those cases that they can't do mischief elsewhere. My feed is flooded with these situations. Lawyers should step up and sue!!

Also, we should stop subsidizing huge wealthy corporations (Walmart, Amazon, McDonalds, whoever) who pay employees less than a living wage and thus make those employees eligible for various public benefits. Why should the taxpayer be paying people when their employers refuse? RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE!

I lived in Florida for several years. We did a ballot proposition to raise the minimum wage. All the screaming about job losses was just that: screaming. It didn't happen. If people earn more they can afford to pay more for healthcare.

@mcuban.bsky.social is asking for ideas to improve healthcare. @rbreich.bsky.social has one: RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE! Also, eliminate the sub-minimum wage. Keeping people in extreme poverty means healthcare is unaffordable for them. Reich explains why the arguments against raising the wage are bogus.

@mcuban.bsky.social I have a business idea for you. Every doctor office I visit has some amount of staff (one or more people) devoted to medical billing. This would be a perfect application area for AI to reduce costs by replacing those people with AI billing processors. You could do it, Mark!

I have personally viewed the Canadian system up close. I worked for a doctor in Quebec once upon a time. When he got out of medical training he went to work for Canada healthcare. He put in 40 hours a week for a fixed salary. Beyond that he worked in private practice. Canadians have choices.
