I think about this in how the guy who ran MySpace sold his company and then traveled the world doing photography, while the guy who runs Facebook never let it go and has gone out of his way to destroy democracy in order to gain more power.

we so earnestly believe money to be the root of all earthly ills, and that on no account can a monied man enter heaven.

“America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.”

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. How corrosive it is that public figures are--more and more shamelessly--ripping the copper wiring out of the walls. Integrity is for suckers. Abusing power is fun. Caring about anything bigger than yourself is lame. An elite class of evil toddlers

It’s funny this is the least strange Moore has ever looked but there’s an interview with him where he mentioned this day. He and Frank Miller met Kirby and Kirby said how he thought they were amazing and doing wonderful things w/ comics and both got flustered like “but you’re JACK KIRBY!”

I tweet: "people who see 50% of their monthly paycheck go to rent don't care if a candidate eats with their hands. they want to hear what your candidate is going to do about housing."

John Galt 2025 replies: "Move if the cost of living is too high."

who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.

I’ve had some wine but this made me tear up—Huell Howser’s unrestrained delight, Joe’s affectionate energy, all people thriving in their love.

It’s so pure, free of pretension, that you can celebrate a guy for wearing a belt and suspenders.

Every country has a powerful right wing that argue “if you tax the wealthy, they’ll leave”

We need to start calling their bluff.

We need to make it so the ultra wealthy either contribute enough to be a positive part of society, or be globally shunned and unable to extract further funds from us.

An old man sitting on the floor in a hovel. Another well-dressed man enters and is being attacked by dozens of rats who are protecting the old man.

AN OLD MAN DEFENDED BY RATS.
[SUBJECT OF ILLUSTRATION.]
A correspondent writes:—"An extraordinary dis-
closure was made at the petty sessions at Llanbadarn
Fawr, Cardiganshire, on Thursday. An old man, Joseph
Mason, a pauper, seventy years of age, was charged
by the parish authorities with leaving his wife charge-
able to Aberystwith Union. It was shown in evidence
that the old man lived far up 'on the mountain top,
miles away above the lead mines of Goginan, and that
when an officer went to the residence of Mason for the
purpose of apprehending him, he found the habitation in
a most miserable condition. Inside this wretched dwel-
ling scarcely anything was found but a heap of turf and
"something" on the ground which did duty for a bed.
The officer, upon entering this miserable abode, was con-
fronted by a complete army of rats, who, instead of dis-
appearing as expected, turned round and presented a
formidable front to an attack on the officer, who at
once beat a retreat, it being considered the safest course
to pursue. It is believed the old man had tamed and
trained his strange companions during his sojourn on
the mountain, and encouraged them in his house. It
was shown that the charge against him was dismissed."

Little fun fact about this game. They misspelled "Staff" in the credits. So it just says "Stuff".
