The kids are alright. And if you scan the walls of this classroom you know that Mr. Carton is the coolest teacher they’ve ever had. @tcmtv.bsky.social @noirfoundation.bsky.social

Well put. Hope we can do again sometime. Maybe when I’m on another hiatus, like August.

I love the ending with Pila retelling the tale without subtitles. #FilmNoirClub

Not STORM FEAR. It’s terrible, even if I did show it on Noir Alley. #FilmNoirClub

Absolutely my pleasure! Is it wrong to say I love Wanda/Pila? #FilmNoirClub

Begs the question: would a male producer have allowed to leading man to be this inept and beaten-down? Pila is ten times tougher. #FilmNoirClub

GREAT PHOTO! I love Joan’s outfit. Gotta like a producer who dresses appropriately for the movie she’s making! #FilmNoirClub

The lighting in the wide establishing shots is exceptional. I’ve known a lot people who saw this movie as kids and had it stick in their memory. I give Russ Metty much of the credit for that. #FilmNoirClub

I’m showing it several times in theaters, but never this gorgeous digitally restored version. #FilmNoirClub

There was a version called THE HANGED MAN, made in 1964 by Don Siegel and starring Robert Culp. I haven’t seen it! #FilmNoirClub

I’d love to know who’s idea that was.

I have never seen another Montgomery directed film that looks as good as this. #FilmNoirClub

It’s uniqueness. I like the way it delves into the clash of cultures so insightfully and as it goes along our allegiance shifts to the locals, especially Pila. #FilmNoirClub

Look for her in HIGHWAY DRAGNET, with Joan Bennett and Richard Conte. #FilmNoirClub

Look for a weird B-movie. I think it’s from 1947 called HAZARD, starting Paulette Goddard. Great role for Fred Clarke, one of his first. #FilmNoirClub

Now, imagine the scene as it is in the novel, we’re Clark’s character is in a gangster but a US senator. Hmm, that’s a prescient characterization. #FilmNoirClub

I highly recommend the film IVY, which Metty shot for San Wood, but which was really influenced by production designer, William Cameron Menzies. I feel Metty took a lot from Menzies, his sense of negative space and bold composition. #FilmNoirClub

In the book is character is known as simply as “Sailor.” I found it weird that they put the character’s name above the actor in the title sequence. #FilmNoirClub
