Senate panel raises hopes that NSF will restore killed grants Republicans promise to work with Democrats to salvage defeated amendment

🧪Have a terminated NSF grant? Or been impacted by such a termination? Call your Senators, esp if they're Repub!!

An amendment to restore killed NSF grants will later be debated on the *full Senate* floor, after it narrowly failed in committee today.

1. Congress appropriates: Fiscal year 2025 budget levels were set on March 15, 2025 ($9 billion for NSF).

2. OMB apportions: Russ Vought decides when to send NSF appropriated funds

3. Agencies spend: NSF spends down (e.g., make new awards) by end of fiscal year (September 30).

🧪 Russ Vought, a Project 2025 architect, is currently withholding $2.5 billion from NSF's budget for this year.

This move is:

-Illegally secretive
-Unusual and suspect
-Disrupts science
-Subverts Congress

It's also urgent because the *fiscal* year ends Sept 30 (call your rep).

See what research at Tennessee universities was defunded in Trump’s federal grant cuts • Tennessee Lookout Among the federally funded grants at Tennessee universities terminated by the Trump administration is one for rural mental health programs.

Thank you @tennesseelookout.com for including my thoughts in your recent article on Federal Grant cancellations that impact the state of #Tennessee

We need more local reports of the federal impact to show that these cuts impact everyone!
