Throughout #BHM, we’ve uplifted quiet giants whose courage and labor often went unseen but never unstudied: Claudette Colvin, Maida Springer Kemp, Imani Dorsey, and Brianna Pinto. Their stories remind us that Black women’s leadership has always been the engine of progress.

This #BHM, we’re honoring pioneers who opened doors - and those who keep them open. From Dr. Gladys West and Jo Ann Allen Boyce to Crystal Dunn and Christen Press, their excellence and advocacy remind us that progress is built by those who demand more and make space for the next generation.

Strike Picket Locations

Beginning today, nurses across NYC are on strike for safe staffing and dignity.

While CEO’s pocket millions, nurses carry a staffing crisis they didn’t create.

We Stand With The Players

Last night, the CBA between @thewnbpa and the WNBA expired. We stand with the players.

Without the players, there is no @wnba.

Pay equity is not optional.
It is earned.
It is deserved.
It is overdue.

Time is running out for the @wnba.com to pay the players what they owe them. Their contract expires TONIGHT.

Without the players, there is no WNBA — and fair pay is LONG overdue. America’s unions stand in solidarity with the WNBPA players in this fight ✊

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler issued the following statement:

Today’s vote to extend the ACA tax credits happened because working people refused to accept another price hike engineered by President Trump and his congressional allies. Extending the ACA tax credits will save 130,000 health care jobs and stop a massive price hike in health care costs at a time when working people are already being squeezed by rising costs.

For months, working people have made clear that we won’t accept higher health care costs, lost jobs or bare-bones coverage dressed up as a solution to politicians’ self-imposed crisis.

This vote, closely following the bipartisan passage of the Protect America’s Workforce Act in the House, proves that when workers stand together we can build a successful and bipartisan coalition to protect working families. We commend the Republican and Democratic leaders who stood with workers and voted to stop this health care price hike.

BREAKING: The House voted to extend the ACA tax credits. This vote is a promising step to save 130,000 health care jobs and stop a massive spike in health care costs.

We commend the Republicans and Democrats who stood with working people. https://bit.ly/4sEjiwz

Can Professional Women’s Soccer in the U.S. Keep Up with the Global Market? The ability of the National Women’s Soccer League to retain Trinity Rodman, one of its biggest stars, could determine its future.

“The league has a choice to make,” Burke told me. “They either need to cater to and protect teams unwilling to grow, or unlock potential. They can’t do both.”

Labor love runs in the family.

Our Executive Director, Meghann Burke, and her brother helped kick off the “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour today at the AFL-CIO Executive Council meeting in D.C.—because union pride runs deep in the family.
