Those people are just “supporting” because they see it as a sporting event and they want to align with the “winning” side. It was like this to a much greater degree during the early phase of Iraq war before reality intruded.

The first time that happened in Trump 1 was Covid, which killed more Americans than every war we'd been in combined

Everybody convinced themselves that didn't count for some reason and now here we are again

"The CIA conspired to make me less cool than I was when I was 25" is the most succinct Gen X manifesto I've ever heard

The American public was ecstatic about starting that war because they wanted revenge for 9/11. The current national mood is nothing like that. Republicans trying to rekindle that same vibe is pure cargo cult shit, and it won’t work.

HAYES: The US is choosing the date of engagement. We decided when we launched

GALLEGO: We actually don't know that. It seems like we may have actually launched at time that was pushed by Israel, because if there was proper planning you would've hardened these positions

kind of astounding to consider that Trump won the 2024 election to a significant extent because Biden's support for Israel became so politically toxic, then he decided a good governing strategy would be to become full on a client state of Israel

Weirdly reminiscent of Russian logic with respect to Ukraine and NATO.

So the USSR “enabled and capitulated” to the Nazis, but they did it strategically. Very cool.

You fight climate change by building a lot of housing in dense urban environments where people can live a low carbon lifestyle, not by trying to convince people to live racked up in bunk beds in the suburbs.

Neither do you, since your “solution” is totally unworkable. Go walk down the street and see how many people are willing to bunk up with strangers to fight climate change.

Iran cannot "close" the Straight of Hormuz. It's not a canal. It doesn't have a gate.
What Iran can do is make it so dangerous that insurers won't cover ships or make it so expensive that they won't risk it.
But nothing stopping a ship from making a run.
It ain't closed.

GDP growth and carbon emissions are already starting to decouple. The solution is clean energy, not degrowth.

The fact that functioning robotaxis have a unit cost that’s in the hundreds of thousands of dollars is going to do wonders to break us of our addiction to car ownership.

We’re not going to achieve net zero emissions by fighting for degrowth aka widespread poverty in elections.

“There will likely be a global rise in anti semitism in response to the actions of Israel” is not the same as “anti semitism is a logical response to the actions of Israel.”

02.03.2026 19:31 — 👍 8    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Antisemitism is in no way justified or even remotely logical as a reaction to any of this stuff.

Vacancy trutherism is complete bullshit. The majority of those “vacant” units are available on the market briefly in between tenants/owners, or getting necessary repairs. Even units whose occupants are on vacation are considered “vacant” for the purposes of official statistics.
