i do like war though, i'm making a point to put war-style barbarians in my dnd world who see apathy as the greatest pitfall and use heightened emotion to perform feats of strength and enter battle fugue. and then some day i'll actually play a barbarian

like obviously he is wrong. otherwise monks wouldn't be able to do flaming kicks and shit. but it's a neat explanation for why they're able to do things that break the laws of conservation of aether or whatever

i like dynamis mnk bc most modern scholars don't understand dynamis at all so erik dismissing monks as useless mumbo jumbo (when the meditation/etc is in fact building dynamics pathways all throughout your body) and being Straight Up Wrong You Just Don't Even Have The Tools To Understand is good

All it takes it stories, to fill a child’s head with dreams of a world so much bigger than he could ever imagine. Adventure- magic- you know it all, I’m sure. The dream of it all. The promise of it- a world to see, and with every step, you can promise back. To make it better with every step. Ardbert Hylfyst: That’s- the thing, about stories. They’re strong, shifting things. They’ve a power of their own. A life of their own. They live in our voices and lives like some strange sot of mirror. You can see it, here, all around you. The desperation of the people. The fear of the end. The way a hammerhead’s reincarnation becomes stained with blood.

Ardbert Hylfyst: …But- well. There’s an invisible side to it, isn’t there? There can’t be stories without voices to share them. There can’t be folklore without the folks who come back together, over and over, to tell their tales. In their darkest hour- the people told stories. Grim ones, aye- but stories, still. They breathe, they change. They’ll change again. Ardbert Hylfyst: Look, I- what I’m trying to say, anyway- is that it’s not over. That child from the island painted this world in white. His story will forever speak louder than the voice of the ghost left behind. But - here you all are. Here Kholusia is. Here are the sharks- and the blood is washing away. Ardbert Hylfyst: Last time, I asked you all to promise me something. I’m going to ask it of you again. And next time- I’ll ask it again, and again. Be there. The next time the story shifts- be there. Be there, so the next voice tells it kinder. Ardbert Hylfyst: Breathe the air. Feel the wind. It’s nice, isn’t it? How it makes the whole world feel real. Like you’re here- despite it all. So sit, for a while. Close your eyes. Let the world tell you its story.
