Sure are smth I keep seeing used as a Gotcha abt him/way to frame him as having yet another way his intrinsic character is deficient.

ppl (YQY) away so they don't have to get pulled down by the ball & chain of his very existence & in fact considers the holding on & forcing ppl to be in his presence at all the selfish cruel punishment he deals out to them.

Anyway tldr SJ's most deeply dehumanizing internalizations abt himself--

LBH framed as uniquely willing 2 be vulnerable bc he's more willing to chase love/commit acts of service or whatev compared to SJ when SJ's always constantly committing what he thinks of as the biggest/only act of love he's capable of even when he frames it internally as a selfish thing: pushing--

Every fault any other chara has is one SJ has & thus implicitly narratively His Fault but ofc every good trait every chara has showcases how better & different they are & to highlight his failure to just Be Better/his inherent lack of humanity that made him the villainous root of all ill or whatev 🙄

I think an important part of Shen Jiu’s character is that he is Miserable. He does horrible things but he doesn’t enjoy them because he doesn’t seem to enjoy much of anything. The closest he gets to happy is when he’s being comforted by women. And is that really happpiness or just need?
