Name dropping is something that I
always find difficult because I fear to exclude people or that it looks like to much of glazing.
Nevertheless, I want to thank all of the folks that I worked together with, shared some laughter and helped me regain hope when it was needed

I also continued with staying close to the people that welcomed me into academia, into scientific communication and into the world
of museums. One of these gave me actually a job that I have until
March next year and was the proof that my efforts are being
rewarded in time

However, one thing that I promised myself was to visit new people/ new museums
and reconnect with others. I met fantastic folks at smaller spots, visited at least three museums
for the first time and had some
wonderful days, I dare to say the best of the year.

While I had the honor to be CoAuthor in two papers (on diplodocoids and ornithomimosaurs) as guest researcher at the Universiy of Zurich, which I am absolutely thankful for, I wished that I could have done more.. but I couldn’t for several personal reasons - so I hope 2026 helps me more on that

This year was one of my personal worst - however, I don’t want to lose hope. Not when I still can do stuff that I love, not when I find sometimes good. Anyways, some highlights of my 2025, with a lot of appreciation for the people that I met and opened their arms. Here is a short thread with images

That’s a bloody shame. We can tell so much about Dodos and there are still some surprises to tell. Is it also because of the execs (like why we did not get hominids)?

Portrait of Mary Anning wearing a green cloak and straw bonnet, holding a hammer and with a basket over her arm.

Extract of a letter from Elizabeth Philpot to Mary Buckland about Mary Anning: 'yesterday she had one of her miraculous escapes in going to the beach before sunrise and was nearly killed on passing over the bridge by the wheel of a cart which threw her down and crushed her against the wall, fortunately the cart was stopped in time to allow of her being extricated from her most perilous situation and happily she is not prevented pursuing her daily employment.'

Early 20th century postcard showing the bridge (circled) where Mary Anning had her accident on 8 December 1833. The Fossil Depot to the right of the bridge had nothing to do with Mary Anning and was demolished with other buildings on that side of the bridge to widen the road in 1913.

9 December 1833: In Lyme Regis Elizabeth Philpot writes to Mary Buckland in Oxford to tell her that Mary Anning was almost killed by a cart on the narrow bridge over the River Lym as she was heading for the beach before dawn. This was one of at least 6 occasions when Mary narrowly escaped death.

Very excited to share that our latest paper is out in Science! We show that the type specimen of Nanotyrannusβ€”an isolated skullβ€”is fully grown, showing that it is not a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex but a distinct species (1/12)

I will just say: if the otter sequence ended with a homo erectus watching the otters while holding a spear and a burning stick with sth like β€œbut even otters can be dethroned” in the narration, that would have been an insane cameo and it would have been much accurate to what happened at this time

Yes, there was a deliberate push to get rid of all scientific names; of course, I think this is a massive mistake. And, indeed, no roaring for sabretooths, their hyoid anatomy indicates that they couldn't do it :) #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge
