22.02.2026 02:29 β π 252 π 45 π¬ 2 π 0Well and truly- whenever someone asks my opinion of any animated work or game these days, I just say βI think it employed a lot of people for a good amount of time, and thatβs more than can be said for most attempts latelyβ.

Drew the new spinosaurus! And the old one while I was at it!

Had to join in on the mirabilis hype train. Iβve been aiming to come up with a spinosaurus composition for a while, and this was a good excuse to finally commit. Including some process steps in the thread! #paleosky #spinosaurusmirabilis #dinosaurart

I was really inspired years ago seeing rough compositions from Howard Pyleβs own sketchbook; you can see how he focused primarily on the underlying design of a composition before even considering any representational element.
23.02.2026 18:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh right on, so happy to read this was helpful! Yeah I doodle rough and sketchy compositions all the time to work through an idea before committing to a finish- if something feels good in a small sketch, then it definitely has the staying power to be a good painting!

23.02.2026 18:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ahaha thatβs how I described it to a friend as well; βyes thereβs technically a unicorn dinosaur, no, itβs not at all how you picture it.β

I, too, would like to have a go at the new Spinosaurus soon, but in the meantime:
Here's a slide from my recent talk, which covers the DOs and DON'Ts of restoring ginkgoes within palaeoart!
Enjoy! #Ginkgo #FossilFriday #paleobotany #paleoart #SciComm

Animators, i want to remind you that like 10 or 15 years ago there was a wage-fixing conspiracy involving 3 major studios, and they were found guilty in court and had to pay affected employees, but our rates never recovered.
We have to make them pay all of us more than the minimum, when it pops.
Yuuup. Felt so special in the new employee orientation after that π₯°
15.02.2026 05:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think about this far too often- when I started at DreamWorks a few years back, told a friend my rate, and then he told me he was paid about the same when he startedβ¦over 12 years before that point π«

Marta Szubert. Creator of one of the first to-scale feathered dinosar models (1997). If you've been to Poland or Slovakia, you've probably seen her models on display.
New personal painting! Inspired by the literal idea of building on the bones of the past, plus some sprinkling of elements from the myth of Ymir. Painted using a 3D block-in with blender, and I have a quick video of that in the thread! #fantasyart #darkfantasy
