The current setup requires either wires on the endotracheal tube directly touching the vocal cords or a needle electrode in the vocal cord muscles.

It is not a diagnosis familiar to most physicians. Data from Alberta Canada and from the VA show that specialists are more likely to think about the diagnosis and to work it up. Perhaps with increasing use of decision aid in electronic medical record this will improve.
