Why you need a hazel in your garden | The RHS
Hazel nuts / filberts are fairly easy to grow in a wide range of temps & soils. Each shrub makes transplantable side shoots AND seedling volunteers. Great for chop & drop mulch, fodder (deer like 'em), nuts of course, habitat, wildlife support, screen, etc. If you lived near me, I'd give you starts.

Rare Canadian rainforest at risk from logging | The Narwhal
Two forestry companies hold licences to log in B.C.βs rare rainforest, home to ancient trees, endangered caribou and rare lichens. Could a provincial park preserve the region?

We Should All Be Talking About Pangolins More. Here's Why.
Pangolins are the only mammals in the world covered in scales. Meet the pangolin: a shy, scale-covered mammal whose name comes from the Malay word pengguling, meaning βrollerβ or βone who rolls up.β When threatened, thatβs exactly what they do: curl into a tight ball of armor, transforming into something that resembles a pine cone. While this defense mechanism is effective against big cats and other would-be predators, itβs no match for poachers. An estimated 200,000 pangolins are taken from the wild every year to meet the demand for their meat and scales, making them the most trafficked wild mammals on Earth. Pangolins are quietly disappearing before many people have even heard of them. The more we talk about them, the more awareness we raise, behaviors we help change, and momentum we create for their protection. Here are six facts about pangolins to get you better acquainted: 1. Theyβre the only mammal on Earth covered in scales Intricately overlapping layers of scales coat the entire length of the pangolinβs body, like natureβs own suit of armor. Often mistaken for reptiles, pangolins are actually warm-blooded mammals who nurse their young, just like we do. At any sign of danger, the pangolin...

First Nations share salmon eggs to bypass dams | The Narwhal
Across the colonial Canada-U.S. border, these First Nations are collaborating to support salmon spawning
Dams have blocked salmon from making their traditional migration through the Columbia River Basin, so these First Nations are sharing fish eggs across the colonial border to help the salmon on their journey. From our friends at @indiginews.bsky.social: thenarwhal.ca/syilx-salmon...
