On 4 July, EMSA’s Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) was deployed off the coast of Tuscany to assist in a safety investigation for Italian and Cypriot authorities.
The ROV carried out a detailed underwater survey of a grounded hopper dredger.

Our RPAS services are carrying out 9 deployments across 11 EU and EEA MS this summer. Our RPAS are supporting national authorities in activities such as maritime safety including search and rescue, pollution monitoring, maritime security and fisheries control. 🌊🚢🐬

The RPAS helps EFCA and the on-board fisheries inspectors to identify fishing vessels & collect information about fishing activity. 🐟🐟🐟

Once again this year, EMSA supported the Bulgarian national authorities in Breeze 2025, the Black Sea-based maritime exercise.
The charted stand-by oil spill response vessel Amalthia joined the exercise, supported by EMSA’s Equipment Assistance.

The delegation presented the EESC Opinion: Towards an EU Maritime Strategy and were briefed on EMSA’s work and activities ⛴️🌊🐬

Today we mark the Day of the Seafarer with a look at the data from the Seafarer Statistics in the EU - Statistical review report.

This data represents a snapshot of the EU labour market in terms of the number of seafarers holding valid certificates and endorsements in 2023.

On 18–19 June, EMSA hosted the 17th CISE Stakeholder Group meeting in Lisbon and online. Now in its operational phase, CISE enables EU and EEA maritime authorities to securely exchange surveillance data across borders and sectors.

Yesterday & today our Administrative Board Members gathered here in our Lisbon headquarters for their 73rd meeting, chaired by Wojciech Zdanowicz, director of the Polish Maritime Office in Szczecin.

Members also held a workshop on future developments for EMSA’s pollution response services.

Today we welcomed Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Kristian Vigenin, to our Lisbon headquarters.

Mr. Vigenin was briefed on EMSA’s activities, particularly in the area of maritime sustainability, and also visited our Maritime Support Services centre to see our operational work in action!

Our Executive Director Maja Markovčić Kostelac today participated in the “Securing People” panel at the 2025 Shaping the Future of Shipping Summit.
Ms. Markovčić Kostelac discussed EMSA’s work in areas like digitalisation, decarbonisation technologies, MASS technologies, as well as relevant studies.

From 3rd to 5th June 2025 EMSA hosted the 15th meeting of the Permanent Cooperation Framework, PCF, for the Investigation of Accidents in the Maritime Transport Sector.
The objective of the PCF is to provide an operational forum enabling the Member States’ investigative bodies to cooperate.
