i continue to be blown away by local community centers all over the world and how they offer so much that isn't legible or relevant to technological systems – the underrated potential of not needing platforms to care for or live with your neighbours.

yes i've heard! do you see dropserver as similar to yunohost/cloudron-type panels that let you one-click install things like wordpress/ghost, or more like an app that could be installed by those platforms (which i label 'easy indie' easyindie.app)

it sounds like you have those choices because you can surmount the nerdwall that results. i was pointing out that 'non-techie people' (would love a better term for this) don't have those choices and end up relying on what those with domain knowledge can offer.

it's weird as i often advocate for self-hosting, but i think it doesn't make something automatically appealing.

psa to please help your friends setup tech alternatives as a social event: switch together so everyone transitions successfully with known contacts on the new platform. lone profiles leave momentum on the table.
