The World’s Oldest Wooden Structure Has Just Been Discovered—And It’s 467,000 Years Old
In Zambia, archaeologists discovered evidence suggesting that early humans may have been less nomadic—and more intelligent—than once thought
We know about the Stone Age, Bronze Age, etc. The truth is, we have always been in the Wood Age, but wood does not preserve well in the fossil record. Larry Barham and colleagues found a wood structure in Zambia, made 476,000 years ago, probably by Homo heidelbergensis. It's an amazing find.

How conservationists found a rare flower called the Saints' Daisy after 60 years
The plant was last seen in 1965 on Santa Cruz Island — one of the few places it's known to have existed in California.

My 2021 reconstruction of the Early Cretaceous tree-fern Weichselia reticulata based on Blanco‐Moreno et al. 2020 (stem) and 2019 (leaves). This plant was common across much of the world in the Early/"Middle" Cretaceous period, including the Bernissart Iguanodon pit, Las Hoyas and Kem Kem beds.
