Last night I met my childhood heroes, the creators of @elfquest.bsky.social Wendy & Richard Pini. I have carried Wendy Pini’s art in my body since I was 10 years old & now we are in a show together at @maristuniversity.bsky.social. My heart is SO FULL ❤️✨✨✨✨

Did you know that March is Long COVID awareness month? I didn’t and I have a kid who has it! She’s one of 5.8 million kids in the US that have Long COVID! it’s not as cool as it sounds.

If you haven't heard Summer Pierre's 2004 debut album, go give it a listen. Personal and thoughtful songwriting. Rich Americana folk-rock music. A lot of great people worked on this album. It is really good.

[portrait of Eddy Dyer by Summer Pierre, from Eddy's album Explosion Alone] Post image Post image Post image

With hints of Syd Barrett and Iggy Pop, Eddy Dyer's debut album is a masterpiece of psychedelic folk. Now remastered and available on orange vinyl. Go give it a listen!

Question for the crowd:

Why is it that autocorrect can make the most aggressive and frustrating corrections on so many words but not do shit about correcting my fat fingered typing of YIU for YOU?

This is the work I’m most proud of right now!

The amazing RUTH ASAWA retrospective at @moma.bsky.social has closed. I loved it so much I went twice.

What joy it was to be in room after room of her generous work. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Glad this story is getting told. Metro Surge is an economic blockade against the entire metro and state.

We each can do our part by following the advice of the Venerable Monks to start the day writing down this statement:

"Today is going to be my peaceful day."

“This is our contribution—not to force peace upon the world, but help nurture it, one awakened heart at a time.” -from the blog post on The Walk for Peace

Thank you to the Theravada Buddhists Monks who have traveled their example.

From the department of I Totally Forgot I Made It: I made this "ad" after a comics show where I was constantly being mistaken for my bff @glynnisfawkes.bsky.social by men. I might have been a little mad. (it still happens)

Taking a break between several hard things to start preparing for one exciting & good thing: I have a show at The Center for Cartoon Studies at the end of the month. Drawing is faith in action. 🌈

Went to MoMA today and happened upon a very familiar Brancusi sculpture—Helen Hokinson drew it for The New Yorker! I almost jumped! 💘✨

Panel from “Summer Pierre on Helen Hokinson”: top and bottom banners carry Pierre’s comments, (top) “HOKINSON'S VERSION WAS A GENTLE INNOCENT WHO FACED THE WORLD WITH AN UNSELF-CONSCIOUS ENTHUSIASM.” (bottom) “STILL, MANY READERS MISSED THE DIFFERENCE IN PERSPECTIVE.”

In the middle is a Hokinson cartoon set in an automat, tiled floor, a few small tables, a woman in a coat and hat waits patiently, gazing at nothing, as her fur-trimmed coated, behatted and gloved teatime partner stands at the automat dispensing wall, raising a tiny door and saying politely "You are to be congratulated on your custard pie.”

also this tribute to the compassionately sororal eye of Helen Hokinson by @summerpierre.bsky.social is really delightful

my parents had a few @newyorker.com cartoon Treasuries lying around so I sort of grew up with Helen and Gahan rather than Kirby & Lee

I don’t know who needs to hear this but here goes:
In high school my art teacher told me I didn’t know how to draw because cartooning wasn’t real art.
I have wanted to be in The New Yorker Magazine since I was 19. I’m 53 and this happened yesterday:
