Plus, representing only the « bad » consequences of art with the addiction and getting lost in the painting is not fair. Art is an essential part of life and can help a lot to cope with grief.
In my opinion giving the player a third option to allow Maelle to process grief in her own way THEN go back to reality would have been better. Letting her time to grieve. And releasing Verso could have been the price to pay to do this.
Aline and Renoir both represents versions of pathological grief. Either you fall in melancholy and despair or you decide to get rid of the past, good and bad altogether. In the end we are forced to choose between those two bad answers.
Versoâs ending is not satisfying either. It breaks Maelleâs arc : fighting her at the end, destroying the canva and forcing her outside is Versoâs choice. Resulting with nearly the same ending we would have add if Renoir destroyed the canva in the first place.
Letâs say it : Maelleâs ending is utter nonsense. She has never been painted as a puppet master or control freak at any point of the game. And I do not think she would want to make this avatar of her brother suffer.
First of all : two endings for such a game is at least risky. It suggests a « bad »and a « good »ending where the logical evolution of the character evolution only offers one logical ending.
I finished #ClairObscurExpedition33 yesterday. The game is near perfection. Except for the end of Act 3. Do not read if you did not finished the game. Spoilers ahead !
