Although written with some irony, this article so captures the commodification of scientific publishing in the last few years. It sometimes feels like a publications arms race, not in a good way

I love this grassroots student-driven movement that is encouraging a positive change in universities across Europe. Hopefully it will grow to a global one. Worth your support:

Conservative Peer Lord Deben calls on all MP & Peers to attend the National Emergency Briefing on the #climate and #nature crisis.
Please check if your MP is attending this critical non-partisan briefing, and if not, urge them to 👉 www.nebriefing.org

Finally out! The outcome of a virtual workshop in Feb 2024 with modelers and observationalists to put together data and protocols to include historical changes in ice sheet/ice shelf discharge in CMIP models. Hopefully not too late for some CMIP7 runs!

@joeroganhq.bsky.social is spreading climate denial and disinformation. Let’s help get him on board saving a livable climate — spread this widely. Send it to people who listen to him. #climate
Just one month left to nominate your favourite EO scientist or team or you can nominate yourself for this ESA award that comes with a really nice research fund. Don't delay, nominate today!

Over the last decade, glaciers in the European Alps have lost more than 15% of their area.
New study by Codruț-Andrei Diaconu, introducing automated tool to map and quantify glacier area changes (+uncertainties)!

New ML hydrology benchmark datasets, code zoos and case studies just published by my colleagues at TUM. Super useful resource for anyone working on hydro-ML. All open source: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

You do realise that even posting about this nonsensical paper is giving it visibility and increasing its altmetric score. It was covered by the Times in the UK as well, despite best attempts of experts to set the record straight
Hey you wonderful EO scientists. Why not nominate your amazing colleague or team or nominate yourself for the next ESA EO excellence award. Nominations have just opened and close 10th Dec. Research cash prize for lucky winners:

There’s so much happening right now, I thought I’d put together a running thread on the dismantling of #climate and research and knowledge infrastructure in the United States 🧵
Totally agree. Every 10th of a degree matters and AGW is not binary but almost every country around the world has declared a climate emergency yet none are treating it like one.
BTW, just saw the news about GISS. Not great.
not overly encouraging...
Sure that's 2 degs. I was referring to 1.5. But, honestly, would I bet on staying below 2 degs right now....?
Yes I know but take a look at the emissions trajectory and it's pretty black and white. It's gone. There is no plausible way to lower emissions sufficiently now...
Looks like staying below 1.5 degs warming is in the rear view mirror. Let's hope that 2 degs doesn't end up the same.
Last September, I reported exclusively this analysis by Pesticide Action Network
Revealed: Far higher pesticide residues allowed on food since Brexit
- Unlike the EU, Great Britain has slashed protections for scores of food types

This is sad, scary and deeply depressing at the same time. It takes decades to build the best and most important scientific institutions but just days to destroy them

Currently trajectory => dangerous levels of sea level rise from the ice sheets. Will this influence policy? Unlikely, but important to keep banging the drum. As declared by almost all nations: it's an EMERGENCY.

Scientists & experts: Add your name to this open letter calling on Congress and the Trump administration to ensure that NOAA and its sub-agencies remain fully funded and staffed, and that the independent, trusted science the agency produces is protected. act.ucsusa.org/4kajJuk
A bit naive IMHO. Some of this funding was used for sustainable energy research. Should we boycott BP/Shell/...EV charging stations as that is adding to their profit or should we support their efforts to provide sustainable energy.....
Beautiful morning on my bike ride along the river Avon into Bristol centre yesterday morning. #cycling
