I live in London and I've protested several times and our government won't stop supporting and sending arms to Israel.

Nothing is moving them.

This is the story of Ismail Behesti Songür, a crew member of the Conscience flotilla that was bound for Gaza, before it was attacked last night by an Israeli drone off the shores of Malta. ismail is continuing his father's legacy in fighting to break the siege on Gaza. Fifteen years ago, Ismail's father Cengiz Songür set out with other people of conscience on the Mavi Marmara, a flotilla that carried the same mission of delivering aid to Gaza. At that time, IOF forces boarded the ship and committed a massacre, killing 9 people on board and injuring others, preventing the Mavi Marmara from reaching its destination. As the siege of Gaza approaches its 60th day and the genocide nears its 20th month, Ismail is drawing upon the legacy and memory of his father to find the strength and steadfastness to continue in his mission. While there are moments where continuing on may feel impossible or futile, we have only to look before us to see others like ismail whose commitment to the struggle has not and will not waver, until liberation. In a world where governments and people alike continue to serve as either complicit actors or indifferent bystanders to a genocide, ismail and Cengiz Songur are a remarkable example of the intergenerational courage, conviction, and willingness to sacrifice that is required of us in this moment.
