If I were supreme overlord I would have it all be one session and use byes, but since USAG isn't doing that: Everyone already qualified to Nationals in the 2nd session.

Oh man, I used to stay after school for hours waiting for the library to clear out so I could sneak on the one computer with internet just to look up pictures of sailor moon lol.

It’s not like they’re kicking them off and replacing them with nobody. This way other gymnasts are getting the opportunity to be on the National team for six months.

I’m fine with NCAA gymnasts being dropped for 6 months if they aren’t attempting to do anything related to elite for half the year. They can still be invited to camps in May and get feedback without being on the team. The gymnasts who’ve been slogging away all spring in elite should have the spots.

The gymnast who’s spot they’re taking also isn’t getting feedback though if they’re on the team while not doing elite, and that gymnast is paying to go to camps and actively trying to get assignments from USAG.

The NCAA gymnasts can get back on the team at Nationals if they’re good enough, and USAG can pay them for the period when they’re actually being used.

The people this hurts is NCAA gymnasts, but do NCAA girls on a full ride scholarship really need to be on the National team from March-August when they aren’t competing elite? Those spots should be used for the gymnasts actually competing elite for USA during that period.

If you didn’t make the World team, you’ve had all of fall to recover/rest and get ready for the next year. Someone who didn’t make Worlds is exactly someone who should be trying to prove themselves at spring assignments.

Then when handing out spring assignments, they have to send non-National team gymnasts, and now pay to add them to the National team too.

My knee jerk reaction is to be against it, but the more I think about it I see where they’re coming from. You have gymnasts who make the team at Nats, don’t make Worlds, and then don’t show up again until next US Classic. USAG has to pay them the whole year to be in the National team, not competing

A domestic qualifier to the Junior National Games is happening at the same time, so China didn’t send any juniors to Asian Champs for MAG or WAG.

Wasn't last year's quals stream a wide shot of the arena where you could basically only see floor? IIRC event finals were more watchable.

Eh, at least it stands out. Like 2005 Worlds, we will always remember this competition by it's color. I do wish the pink parts were blue at least, orange and blue go great together while the pink is clashing here. In action some of that pink will be diluted by ads and signage, so that should help.
