Realization of the day:

Spiders spend a lot of time just hanging out.

We writers are strange creatures who send words out into the world not knowing if anyone receives them. What a wonderful thing it is to learn that they've been not only heard, but understood.

I'm guessing if I'd had the film as part of my formation as you have (given 47 viewings) I'd be similarly enculterated by it. Saw that you're an evangelical, so I can compare it to the Christian indoctrination experience. I viewed the film as a deconstructed non-binary gender anarchist. 1/2

Man, you are very invested in old George.

Kicks gates and breaks things when angry. Punches a cop after driving drunk and getting in an accident. Verbally abusive to Mary throughout the film. Crap behavior toward kids. Mild sexual assaults. All the stuff that was accepted as just "hard-working man had a bad day" stuff back then.

Watched it for the first time this year and what struck me most was that George Bailey was a prime example of angry toxic white masculinity.
