Well, I’m gonna insist that you listen to this.

Definition of terms:

“these people” = Latino migrants

“Inner city people” = Black people

“We tried to get them [inner city people] to do it” = slavery & sharecropping

Does mowing make anyone else feel like an ecoterrorist, or is it just me?

We writers are strange creatures who send words out into the world not knowing if anyone receives them. What a wonderful thing it is to learn that they've been not only heard, but understood.

Note to readers: authors love hearing from you!

My wonderful spouse Declan thanked you, and I'm adding my own gratitude now.

I so appreciate your description of the book and your experience reading it. My goal was to raise awareness through the mechanism of a page-turning story of love and grief. #translivesmatter and so do your words. <3

Never underestimate the power of telling an artist/writer/musician/teacher/journalist/whatever that you love their work! We don't actually hear it that often, especially when we're indie, and it means the world every single time.

I'm still working on breaking out of my own shell in terms of

Doh! I meant ex. That's why I made the comparison. Thought it would help you understand my point about enculturation. Darned autocorrect.

So the problematic issues were glaring.

The smaller daily behaviors of people tend to be better indicators of character than the glossier moments of public virtue and heroicism, in my view.

I'm guessing if I'd had the film as part of my formation as you have (given 47 viewings) I'd be similarly enculterated by it. Saw that you're an evangelical, so I can compare it to the Christian indoctrination experience. I viewed the film as a deconstructed non-binary gender anarchist. 1/2

Kicks gates and breaks things when angry. Punches a cop after driving drunk and getting in an accident. Verbally abusive to Mary throughout the film. Crap behavior toward kids. Mild sexual assaults. All the stuff that was accepted as just "hard-working man had a bad day" stuff back then.

Watched it for the first time this year and what struck me most was that George Bailey was a prime example of angry toxic white masculinity.

If it helps even a tiny bit, what you describe is a widespread female experience. Bathing suit induced dysmorphia. Ugh. Your AFAB sisters stand with you.
