I particularly resent rags like Daily Mail gleefully reporting Trump’s bullying of Starmer. It’s disloyal and hypocritical - they’d be screaming from rooftops if U.K. meekly followed European diktats, yet would have us unquestioningly kowtow to Trump. Starmer’s task is incredibly difficult.

He's dammmed if he doesn't, and dammed if he does..
No luck and a right wing press.

I may have my frustrations and disappointments about Starmer as a domestic politician, but internationally, I think he’s serious, responsible and trying to do his best for U.K. in unbelievably complex int’l environment, despite treasonous ghouls like Farage doing their best to undermine him.

Limiting impact on British citizens, investments, bases etc. trying to prevent an oil embargo, collapse of friendly countries. Lots of ways in which we can be harmed by this war, which we’ve reluctantly been dragged into

Moreover, Trump going around pissing off every single ally that doesn’t unquestioningly obey him is a dumb policy, for when the going gets tough in Iran. Eventually, even your best friends lose patience.

The β€œspecial relationship” always been imbalanced.Trump’s merely ripped the tactful veneer off it. IMO, Starmer was right not to join the Iran offensive; but also right to adapt to changing circs by committing defensive resources now. We didn’t want this war, but must now try to limit its impacts.

Amongst other comments Trump says he's "disappointed with the UK."
Then Trump disparagingly says of PM Starmer " This is not Churchill we're dealing with."

Well Mr Trump, you're not exactly Roosevelt either, are you.

Precisely! More than that, most Brits despise Trump, and will want Starmer to resist his bullying. By contrast, Farage and co will lose support tying themselves so sycophantically to Trump. I’d call this a win-win situation!

Being rescued by the taxes they moved to #Dubai avoid to paying.
Irony is off the scale....

If their express reason for moving there was not to pay tax, then surely Britain should charge them for repatriation flights?

Nigel Farage lied multiple times at his press conference today - including saying no-one who voted Green in Gorton and Denton has a job and he's "certain" Reform won most British born voters in the by-election, based on zero evidence, and yet not a single journalist there pushed back on them

β€œWe cannot say that the United States’ actions are against international law, but we condemn Iran’s retaliatory actions as against international law,” is neither a coherent nor a compelling position.

Any voting irregularities should be investigated. It’s a really important issue

But the idea that 4k+ votes were β€˜stolen’ is Trump level nonsense

V worried British media could end up in same place as US, legitimating β€˜stolen votes’ claims by parroting BS lines from Farage and Co

Do we stand by forever, as Iran oppresses its people, exports terrorism, and weapons to rogue actors around world? Many Iranians have longed for such an intervention. I would love to see the regime’s demise. But, I question the motives behind this attack, and fear how it will turn out in practice.

I watch events in Iran unfold with dread. My concern is more the practical consequences than legal niceties, because, let’s face it, Iran is a serial violator of every UN standard, a menace to the region and its own people for decades. The UN has been unable to uphold or enforce its own charter.

28.02.2026 22:32 β€” πŸ‘ 55    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

It’s an illegal war, launched by men (Trump, Netanyahu) of flawed character and questionable motives. I certainly would welcome collapse of the hideous Iranian regime, more freedom for its people, and greater security for the region. But, such interventions always have unpredictable consequences.

It seems many folks don't understand that this war won't end up being good for Iranians, either. I'm not just talking about all the kids who've died already. Look at Iraq. Or Afghanistan. Hell, Trump invaded Venezuela and left a dictator in charge. He'll ensure Iran is run by an autocrat he chooses.

28.02.2026 21:28 β€” πŸ‘ 465    πŸ” 86    πŸ’¬ 18    πŸ“Œ 3

Iran is an bad actor on the world stageβ€”and it would be better if it were a democracy. The same can be said of Russia, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and many other countries no Trump fan wants us to invade and send our troops to die in.

Never apologize for opposing this war.
