The Night Gardener is one of my personal favorites. The opening page--WOW! In the past when I booktalked this novel in schools, I read just this section out loud and told the kids they'd have to check out the book if they wanted to know more--it worked every time!:

The thing about Banned Books Week is that so many books are being soft censored, too, and we may never know. Schools in whole states are just not buying queer books and books about race, etc
